I have checked on the thread "already suggested". Bridges was not in that list.
My idea was we could use bridges to cross mountains, lakes, lava lakes, etc. safely, with no chance of falling off.
You make Bridge x4 by having the top row rope, and the middle row wooden planks.
3 wooden planks+3 rope=4 bridges.
You make rope x4 with 3 wool, going down the middle row.
Bridges allow you to cross terrain safely with no chance of falling off, this is because the sides have rope, so it unallows you to fall, and on the bottom there is wooden planks.
You can make double and triple wide bridges by putting 2 or 3 bridges next to eachother, going left->right in the middle row, making either a double-wide Bridge, or a Triple-Wide Bridge, depending if you put 2 or 3 bridges on it...
you cannot place torches on bridges, but you can place blocks on the side of the rope, then place a torch. water does not affect bridges, it falls through little cracks on the bottom.
Iron bridges are like bridges but use iron bars instead of wooden planks. The difference is iron bridges can cross lava lakes, wooden bridges burn. The only downside of iron bridges is you cannot make triple or double-wide bridges with them...
I think its a great idea. Bridges built with blocks are often too wide and can be too much in a village or house for instance. Because of the size of Minecraft's blocks, it is harder to make smaller bridges that actually look nice, and merge well with their surroundings. This would also help in Creative mode, as the aesthetic of an actual bridge would be perfect in almost all places.
Also, they will generally be more convenient. The player aztech101 (Diamond Miner) has commented that 'the sneak function makes this useless' but if you were travelling a long distance on a bridge made from blocks, you would be slowed down by the sneak function. In Survival mode, you may need to sprint across this bridge, and building a bridge more than one block wide to insure that you do not fall is a waste of time and valuable resources.
This idea is parallel to our life. We didn't dismiss the idea of bridges simply because we could walk carefully over a thin log or other material. We use bridges because they makes our lives easier. Faster travel, more security and, if designed well, they look good.
Those are just a few of the reasons why I think bridges should be added to Minecraft.
Use blocks for small or medium-sized- bridges. You build it once, expand it to two or three times while sneaking across and/or add fences on the sides of the bridge or one block over the edge floating. It's safe to use, you can't fall, and you can rebuild it whenever you want. If the distance you're traveling is so long that you'd be significantly slowed down by sneaking over a one-wide part, either expand it while crossing so you can sprint-jump across, place a minecart track on it, or travel through the Nether to shrink it.
No support.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
