ok so first of all sorry for my english it maybe not the best...
my main idea: why can't we get the coal and the stick back from a torch we place on a crafting table?
And better like if we put the TNT we won't get the sulfur and the sand back maybe we'll get some little dynomites that maybe be thrown or something like that ( it's not the idea but...) but we can't do it with everything like glass or anything else you "cooked" in the forge and we can't do it with tools of iron and other ingots but the tree and stone tools can be "uncrafted".
Some details of it: maybe we'll do it on a special craft table with only one place where you can place your item and two or three places where you get the basic items of it and maybe where will be a chance that then you try "uncraft" a torch so where will be a chance that the stick is unusable ( unusable = you won't get it back ) anymore and this staff...
So tell me your ideas and opinions about it and i hope you'll like it ;D
tell some more ideas and opinions and some items that you think that they aren't "uncraftble" so if notch will ( i hope so) :wink.gif: read this one and will like ( also hope so ) he'll see all the things we thought about so tnx for every of your opinions.
i've seen that some people didn't really get this idea so i'll try to explain a little better not everything can be "recycled" to it's original materials. some things will like get smaller, things like: cake maybe will "uncrafted" to cap cakes because the thole cake is a block and the cap cakes is something you can eat while you in a dark mine or a TNT it will be stupid if you'll get back sand and the sulfur so maybe it could be a dynomite that you can burn and throw but it'll make smaller explosion.
I like it for physical change crafts but not for chemical change. Cake = no for sure.
Torch = I'd say a no because it's burning the coal in a Minecraft way and who doesn't use torches for infinity in Minecraft? Can never have enough!
Tools with no deterioration = yes but of course if the tools ended up with even one bit of use, then a no because that would lead to that old glitch which has now been patched where you could throw a tool on the ground, pick it up and it has it's durability restored.
i've also said that where maybe a chance that if you put a torch or something you've already used so some of the basic materials of it won't get back
like if i put an used stone sword maybe i won't get one of the stones or the stick back
I think you should only be able to do it with unused flint and steel, which isn't realy much so yeah, it won't add enough to the game to put it in the game,
would be a waste of Notch' time
in my opinion it's better then ideas like fly to the moon
Why you don't get the stuff back is be cause you used it up on making it.
so?!?!?
where is some items that you steel can get back their materials like unused torch you steel didn't burned the coal on it so maybe you could get it back?
i don't think it's the best idea but it's one of the best i could make in my "awsome" head so i made this topic to look if this one is ok or i should think of it a bit more.
I was thinking about something like this a few months ago while playing on superflat. I had a chest full of Iron armor that was all but useless to me. Since there are no ores in superflat it would have been nice to get iron for tools (this was before golems). A reverse crafting table is an excellent idea, especially for those of us that do a lot of challenges where supplies are limited. Of course the return/exchange rate would be modified by the condition of the item.
Take for instance a helmet (we'll use iron, but the same goes for all ore types). It takes 5 ingots to craft a helmet. If you decide that you don't need it anymore(for whatever reason!) it can be uncrafted: undamaged=4 ingots, green bar=3 ingots, off-green=2, and orange=1. Red, you get nothing. Pickaxe: undamaged= 2ingots+1stick, used through yellow 1 ingot+ 1 stick, and again, red=0. Of course there are end items that can not be uncrafted. Any food item for instance.
Items without a "use bar" would get a standard, but reduced, return. i.e. fences, tracks, ladders, ect.
Sticks can be turned back to boards at a 4 to 1 rate.
Another "helpful" task of the table would be to break down stone. Smooth/stone block to cobble to gravel to sand. Again, this is more for of us challenge takers where gravel/sand is limited.
Keep in mind that there are still some of us out here that play vanilla/unmodded, so a change like this would be GREATLY appriciated!
We've had many similar "recycling bin" suggestions in the past. The general consensus would be that you 'd get some, not all, of the material used to craft the item as there would be potential for abuse were it otherwise.

what do you mean easy.
Charcoal, Beds. Those make it easy.
if you put where a charcoal you'll not get the wood back...
and a bed like whut??
tnx dude
Yeah I now just tried to get the idea alive and make it a bit better :smile.gif:
