This is pretty much my first time on a forum, so please excuse my ignorance to anything that isn't in the forum rules!
My idea is something that would add incredible depth to the creative aspect of Minecraft, but I'm not sure on how to make it "Minecrafty".
Basically, the idea involves giving the player the ability to use two new features:
The first part is the ability to use "glue" to "stick" blocks such as wood or other (probably limited to non-physics affected) blocks together. This is important because it adds huge potential when combined with the pistons from 1.7. Once a bunch of blocks are "glued" together, they can all be pushed (there would have to be a size restriction of course) by a piston pushing any single one of those blocks. This would allow for movement of bases and other objects and could have huge potential for creative minds! I'm not sure about the implementation of glue, but I guess that it would be used by clicking on one block and then another.
I think people may have talked about something similar to this with hammers, when discussing customizable ships.
The second part is equally important. The ability to make a set of "glued" blocks into a single object (I think that might be called an entity?) and then have that new object become part of the interactive movable (physics-affected) environment alongside boats and minecarts. Basically this new object (people would probably build boats and cars) would be able to be pushed by the player and perhaps roll down hills. If made of wood it could float, and this idea would open the way for motors and wheels to become part of Minecraft, therefore allowing us to find creative (and unique) solutions to moving around.
Also, if piston was part of this new object, it could probably work as a motor if people were creative enough.
I haven't thought up all the ideas on how to use this yet, but I think it's important because it delivers more freedom to creations and I'm sure people could create awesome stuff with it.
This idea has been touched upon before (mainly discussing boats) here:
I'm almost positive I haven't explained this very well, so if you're confused, just leave a reply and I'll try to explain better or use pictures. I'd make a mod for it but I'm not that smart...
