First off, I'm unaware as to the complexity of this, and I'm also unsure if it's been suggested already, but my recent search yielded no results relating to this.
I have liked the feel of building high in the sky, looking below you to see the height you're at, but in doing so, I have always felt slightly restricted, half of the time, my house at the highest possible altitude was level with a tree on top of a mountain. In my opinion, this is an annoying restriction, the clouds are really low, and you can't go far above them. I think it could be beneficial to raise the height limit to allow that feel of being extremely high above the clouds, and allow for tall buildings. Relatively, the bedrock ceiling in the Nether could be higher to make it less cramped, but that's not a priority.
To sum this up, I'm suggesting a higher maximum altitude.
I'm not sure how well this will go over, but, It has been bugging me, so I figure seeing other opinions on the matter would be a good place to start.

and my opinion, i don't want the sky higher, i want the dungeons deeper D:
Jeb said during the dreamhack presentation that they are playing around with the idea.

I searched for topics like this, but I couldn't find many, and I must have searched for the wrong key words, I apologize if this has been continually suggested.

Anyways, I noticed that Jeb considered infinite map height for 1.8, but that's probably just a joke. Notch doesn't want a higher block height, because falling from the top of the map to the bottom breaks something in the game and it asplodes, or something like that.
Personally, I have experienced falling from the top of the map into an open mine, and the game never technically broke, but, I only did this a couple of times, and I may have been lucky. As for the 1.8 update, I saw the bit about that, but that would be near to impossible, it would have to have some limit, so I agree, he was most likely joking.

This has been suggested many times over, can it be done? Perhaps. But than again, why does it need to be done?
I'm sure the limit was programmed, and therefore can be changed, but I think it should be done so as to get the feel of being really high in the air, but maybe I could just wait for the sky dimension.

I will have to look that mod up, thanks. and as for the dungeons, come 1.8, it looks like they may be on the surface in ruins. So hopefully a mod will be made.

This.
And to have clouds be above the height limit
That would also be a good idea, when I'm building at that height, the clouds get in my way and I can't see what I'm doing, I can't even get around them because they can be so big.
This is probably the number-one change I want in the game. Number two is multi-server, for what it's worth.
Assume for the sake of argument that the terminal velocity problem can be solved. If Minecraft were to try to more accurately model the Earth, then the absolute bottom should be somewhere near the Moho discontinuity, say 20km below sea level. To satisfy those who wish to build to the sky, extend the world up another 20km, for a maximum height of 40km.
My terrain generator currently works at a 6:1 ratio -- data representing the "real world" is reduced by a factor of six before terrain is generated. It currently gets a little messy if I dial it back to 1:1, and I'm having more fun adding new features than fixing that. :-P Anyway! Reducing that 40k number by six gives us 6666. Round that up to the next power-of-two and you get 8192. 64 times taller than now.
Yes, that terminal velocity problem will need to be fixed. Yes, the ore placement algorithm will need tweaking. A bunch of other changes would be needed. But I would totally love to play in that world instead of this one.
I have never used mods so I have no experience with ymod or robintons. Does anyone know if either of these mods will support a 64-times-as-tall world? Please let me know! :-)
Not to mention the 1.8 prerelease looks to be the same as the one at PAX. I was up a good 300 blocks. Probably not final but this may be in. Also, falling is not an issue.

Give a man a fish, and he'll be fed for a day.

To anybody who thinks increasing the height would be impossible or cause major lag:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/310298-173robintons-mods/
It's already been done to a height of 65,504 blocks.
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
