Choose Your Type of Map a BanjoPlayingHorse suggestion
What is This Suggestion About?
This suggestion to Notch and the people at Mojang is all about including serveral different map generators that generate things such as deserted islands, and vast deserts.
How Will This Work?
Basicly, when you go to create a world, it will pop up with a choose of the various map generations that are possible. Then when you select a type of map generation, it will ask for your world's name and a seed. This is done second becuase each world generator will have its own set of seeds. This allows for the same great seed function as the vanilla minecraft now. After your finished on that page, you will enter map generation. This is were minecraft will use the map generator you selected to create a map for you to adventure in! The map generator will also build you a custom nether!
Who Will Make the Map Generators?
The answer to this question is both Mojang, and the coders (modders) of the minecraft community. Every once and a while, Mojang will add a great new map generator to minecraft, but until then, everyday joes will create map generators using the knowledge of minecrafts world generation (this will be released to serveral select people). You will be able to possibly download map generators in-game. The only thing about this is that it might not be possible to create seed information for all of the user-created map generators, so if you picked a user made map generator it will not give you a choose of using a seed.
What Kind of Map Generators Will There Be?
I have a few suggestions, so let me lay them out alongside some generators that will start this off. Classic Map
A map generated pre-1.8 Adventure Map
A map generated in 1.8 Flat Map
A completely flat piece of land with no caves. The nether for this map would also be flat. Island Map
A map generator that builds almost a Survival Island type of map. The map will consist of multiple, small islands will limited reasorces. Below the surface, would possibly be a huge cave system, or a dungeon (1.8). The nether for this map generator would be serveral islands flooting on a lava pool. Desert Map
A map generator that builds a desert that can be either moutainous, or flat. In the desert there are few oasis. Oasis consist of grass, trees, and water along with the rare sugar cane.
Dungeons take the form of pirimids, and caves have sand as well as dirt pockets. The nether is almost the same with the exclusion of a few bits of sand mixed in with all thee netherache. Floating Islands
A map generator that builds a sky-dimentions map. This is basicly a bunch of islands that are floating above the void, assuring that you die if you fall. The Nether is the same in this map generator. Nether Map
A map generator that builds the nether in the main world. There might be a few places with grass, but I have to say that would ruin the fun. :smile.gif:

I think this edition would really add to minecraft gameplay, and improve playablity. You also have to admit that it would be nice if you could add a little varity to the start of a world, without mods. This has been me, BanjoPlayingHorse, suggesting new map generators. I will create pictures if this thread gains popularity!
When you say it might work, do you mean the coding or the part about it increasing playablity? I know it is possible to code, being a slight coder myself. Also others have made map generators. I also know it will increase playablity becuase I always love to use those map generators becuase they don't drasticly change the game, but they make it different.
The mps not being infinite are the problem for the map generators now. They are forced to put an adminium wall between you and the outside world. But, for these map generators it would generate it infinitly. This would mean if you choose the desert, it would continualy generate a the desert, it wouldn't start making other biomes from the current generator. The same would go for all other map generators. Just a recap: all map generators would generate infinity so there would be no adminium walls, and no biomes from the current generator.
I like this idea, but maybe it would be better to have sliders instead. You know, a slider from mountainous to flatter, or desert to ocean.
I like that, except if you want a 1 biome world it should be a dropdown box that lets you choose which biome you start in.
