There should be a block that can fall but is flammable. This can be used, for instance, for making traps. Destroying a block above you can cause one of these blocks to fall, thus bridging the gap between some burning Netherrack and a block of TNT. Sure, you can use sand or gravel falling on a pressure plate (can you?), but where's the fun in that? Besides, it can have other uses too, such as huge towers that slowly fall as they burn. Sawdust could be crafted by placing a wooden plank block in a crafting table, which could generate 4 sawdust blocks (powdered materials are much less dense than their solid forms.)
I've made a simple texture for it by modifying the gravel texture. Click the block for the actual 16x16 texture.
Hypothetical: You read a thread in the Suggestions forum. You suddenly realize you've seen the idea before. Maybe it's a duplicate? No. Maybe it's just you? No. Maybe it's been done already? Very likely: Click here if there's a mod for that.
I'm not sure exactly how useful this would be, but it's a nice enough idea in concept. Why not add use by combining this idea with some of the others out there?
For instance instead of sawdust, what if the haystack blocks that many people suggest were affected by gravity? Two suggestions in one, since hay/wheat would still be flammable.
A solution to the lighting problem could be to not have moving gravel burn; it would still be useful in traps, and the wind from it falling could put fire out anyway.

Solvable by not letting it be on fire while moving. Judging by the OP, the idea is more that it falls into place and then catches fire.
Well damn. Only thing that had me interested was the thought of fiery karma caving in on trespassers...

I would like to add that the sawdust block can be further crafted into let's say 4 saw dusts. The purpose of these saw dusts would be that if equipped and right-clicked on a dirt/grass block, it would change that block into a "path in grass" block. The graphic (beyond my means to create) would suggest a worn place in the grass. If possible adjacent "path in grass" blocks could link together as they are placed so that the appearance of an extended path would be created.
This would fill a need I have to indicate paths through the world early in the game between various places without going next to gravel and replacing dirt/grass blocks with gravel.

And it would have to update world lighting as it moved, which may slow the game (you lost it) down.
By itself: Meh.
In a mod pack: Ok.
Good idea though. :wink.gif:

True, but that would look kinda choppy, no?

I thought I just said that.

Falling blocks are entities. Entities that are on fire do not illuminate the world, so it causes no light updates and no lagg.
And yes, I lost :/
