This is an idea I've for a while and I thought I should share it!
Pushable blocks.
So there are a lot of adventure maps out there that have very cool puzzles in them(usually involving Redstone). And I cant hold myself when playing a game with so much scope and room to create and change to come up with some puzzles. But I've noticed a lot of my ideas almost always involved the player being able to push blocks around. So this is where my idea comes in, lets start off with how the pushable block will interact with the rest of the world.
Normal Pushable Blocks.
Lets begin with just a normal pushable block. The blocks will of course look different from other blocks. The way you push the blocks is probably what you thought. You walk toward the block and walk into to it for a while and the block will move to the next position you're facing. As long as there are no blocks in it's way.
Now obviously pushable blocks will be able to go on top of pressure plates and activate them too. They also will be able to go on top of Redstone wire without breaking it. Pushable Blocks will also obey physics, meaning that it can fall down ledges. The normal pushable block will sink into sand when pushed in top of it.
So that's how the "Normal Pushable Blocks" will work, but of course I've come up with variations and such, so here they are!
Pullable Blocks.
These blocks will look very similar to the Normal Pushable Blocks but they will look to have handles on them. And that can only mean on thing, you can pull them!(Just you let you know the are still pushable)How do you pull them you my ask, the way to pull them is crouch right beside one and the block will in a way become attached to you, and when you move backwards it will follow!. Once the block gets into a acceptable position it will snap there for a moment for you to let go or keep on pulling.
Wooden Pushable Block
Wooden pushable blocks are a lot lighter then the previous two. Because they are so light they are able to float on water or water steams. They also can be pushed on sand without sinking.
Metal Pushable Blocks.
Metal pushable blocks very heavy, so heavy in fact that they will sink in soil! Metal blocks are also magnetic and they will, when close enough, head toward a magnet block.(Even if that means going upwards)
Before I go on I'd like to talk about magnet blocks. They are not a pushable blocks but blocks you place. They can be turned on and off by Redstone(If a magnet block is not attached to any Redstone it will by default be on, magnetized, powered etc.)
When the metal block is heading toward the magnet block it can travel over very large gaps, and hang off if the magnet block is at an edge. The metal block can be pushed off of a magnet block if need be.
Other stuff
Here are some other things.
Conveyor belt: When a pushable block is placed on one of these it will take it to it's other end. Can be turned on or off by Redstone.
Fans: They are able to push wooden blocks until they are out of range. When wooden blocks are being pushed by fans the can make it across one block gaps. Can be turned on or off by Redstone.
Springs: When all pushable blocks(Except Metal blocks)are placed on top of these they will shoot in the air.(Wooden blocks go the highest.)
So there you go, my idea, hope you liked it. And if you have any ideas please leave a comment! It would be much appreciated.
I like this idea! As an adventure map player, I can say this would make for some pretty interesting puzzels. Some adventure maps don't allow you to make pistons or place blocks so this would be an ideal solution.
I like the idea, but all the blocks should be able to be pushed and pulled. Maybe by right clicking on a face, you grab onto that face and can push/pull it in that direction?

What if we DON'T WANT our worlds to be littered with pistons?
2.How about with blocks that don't use the laws of gravity that when you push them, it goes 1 space and stays there. Like this:
.=No platform :dry.gif: =Steve
Unpushed:
...........
Pushed:
......
I think the pushable blocks would move in a grid fashion. Meaning they don't move completely freely.
This.
If you have a puzzle in some adventure map that needs blocks to be moved, you simply allow the player to pick up those blocks.
