I know there's no atmospheric pressure in Minecraft.
I'll admit, I had this idea five minutes ago, and haven't put a huge amount of thought into it, but I thought I'd throw it out into the savage wilds of the forum non the less.
So, a barometer, for those of you who don't know, is as the Topic Description partially says, a scientific instrument used in meteorology to measure atmospheric pressure, i.e. the weather.
So my idea is to have said barometer, which could be held in the inventory, like the clock and compass, and will show what the weather is/is going to be. Or it can be placed like a torch to hang on the wall.
However, as of now, weather has very little effect on the game, which would make the barometer a bit redundant and rather pointless. But, you never know, that might change.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome.
*I really am aware of how pointless this would be, but I like the idea of it. And it may have some uses. I mean who wants to climb their mining shaft, seeing that it's daytime, only to realise that it's grey, raining and miserable outside :tongue.gif:
With the barometer, you could save yourself the effort, and carry on happily mining while the rain passes, and you can emerge into glorious sunshine!
And the fellow who posted it got flamed severely. Simply because the mechanics of Minecraft don't work that way. Rain isn't predicted it just happens at a random occasion. To include a barometer Notch would have to reprogram the weather to preset times which would suck because people would figure out when it is going to rain without a barometer.
I don't see why he would have to reprogram the weather? But then, I don't know anything about programming.

Let's compare it to Harvest Moon. Harvest Moon decides what the weather for the next day is in advance. The days are also broken down into 24 minute timeframes. The weather will always go into the next day at a specified time (06:00, the time you wake up in Harvest Moon).
In Minecraft, weather can happen any time, day or night. It is completely random down to the second. Meaning it is impossible to predict. In order for it to be predictable you have to change the weather system to change at specific times of the day and the next one would have to be decided either at the beginning of the current weather or at a predetermined time before it is scheduled to change again.

OK then, case closed, suggestion scrapped. Thanks :smile.gif:

Hey now I actually liked this idea as a part of the Mercury Suggestion. This (and the thermometer that also came with the mercury idea) would be incredibly useful. And the code could be rewritten but still be random enough to not be predictable.

use the search bar next time.
people have already suggested this along with mercury to make it.
Kerbals, kerbals, everywhere, where they stop, I don't care!Kerbal Space Program
Sigh.
I did.
How?
I did T_T
