Note: I realize people are making suggestions similar to mine(Velocity), but I'm going into detail and also explaining how they would work. So I don't give a if you tell me to use the search bar. :wink.gif: /b]
When I've been using pistons I noticed their capabilities are decently flexible, yet there are many things that are limited about them.
1) You can't use them as lifts. Why? Because the pistons only lift objects/players by one block.
2) You can't use them as a trampoline/elevator. Why? Because the velocity isn't strong enough.
How can this be fixed?
I call it:
The Amazing Pistion add-on thingy that let's you do more!
What does it do?:
It works like your trusty:
You can add it to your redstone wiring to change the function of the specific block.
Currently pistons, when activated, look like this:
= the end = the base of the piston = redstone
Counter (number)= the counter mechanism.
[(Velocity)/Distance]= velocity mode is selected with the Velocity/Distance mechanism.
[Velocity/(Distance)] = distance mode is selected with the Velocity/Distance mechanism.
-
1 square
If you added on these two mechanisms you can adjust it so it, for example, looks like this:
-----------
In essence you can use this new mechanism to allow pistons to be used as elevators/in terms of velocity you can use pistons as springs.
This is how it would work with the redstone wiring and the two new mechanisms:
[Velocity/(Distance)] Counter 4 ----
The mode is set to "Distance" and the counter is set to "four" so the piston travels four blocks.
How can it be implemented?:
Have the "Amazing Pistion add-on thingy that let's you do more!"(Now it's going to be referred to as APATTLYDM) let you choose two modes(you choose by hitting it).
1) Velocity Mode
2) Distance Mode
You attach the APATTLYDM to your redstone wiring and WALLA you have your very own SUPER flexible piston, but wait there is one problem, how do you set what it's adjusted too 0_0.
There are two options for this:
1) Add another block so that, works similar to the repeater and APATTLYDM, every time you hit(just like how you are able to set the note played by sound boxes) it it shows the next number on the counter and let's the piston extend that far. There would have to be a maximum of course :tongue.gif:.
2) Use the already existing Redstone repeater to allow you to set the value.
Note: This would limit you to only being able to increase the velocity/distance to four, and would also cause problems with how the redstone repeater already functions so I do not recommend this way of implementation.

Any suggestions to my suggestion are welcome and thanks for reading :3 :biggrin.gif: :smile.gif:
I don't mean to double post, but can someone explain to me why all the trolls on the suggestions forum are getting posts more then the people who are at least trying to put out a decent idea?

Those posts are more entertaining, simple.
Let's face it, was it the class clown or the smart kid who got attention in class?
On topic to your original post, I don't know what you're actually suggesting it do.
The piston mod pistons launched stuff but Mojang didn't like the feature. I don't think official pistons are ever going to launch things (trampolines maybe.)
If Mojang would fix sticky piston chaining you could rig a bunch of pistons in a row to use as an elevator.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.

I didn't necessarily like the feature of launching since it would seem to be very glitchy, but I added it there anyway.
I thought about sticky pistons before this post, but they are not the easiest things to get(slime :/). Especially when your trying to make an elevator that is fairly large. That's why I thought it would be much easier to add a new component to pistons.
Edit: Also the wiring for that? Don't get me started :tongue.gif:
It's a pain, but my elevator works. This idea is meh, mainly because it is a logic fault that more extensions could possibly be inside the piston.
Also, not all of us are trolls, in fact If an idea gets harassed by most of us, it is because the OP is breaking the rules. That being said, I have seen this suggestion many times since pistons came out, but this was a unique take on it.

Thanks for making a video, I added this block so that people wouldn't need to make tons of pistons and use so much space like you do. This also can be used for much more things then just an elevator. It can be used for more efficient traps or secret doors/bridges.

Yeah figured that out after reading a bit more. Thank you for your input :smile.gif:

Thank you :3 I've been on many forums and I also love to write so I'm sure that helps with it.
I understood what aztech was saying though so that's why I used some more emoticons and added more details :biggrin.gif:
