Well, everyone I know who plays minecraft has/wants pet slimes.
But they leave or die, and poof, the slime is despawned.
So the solution:
Slime buckets!
Right click a slime with a bucket (must be tiny) and voila! A slime in a bucket!
Also, if you don't have iron to make a bucket (AKA: You're lazy) the slimes shouldn't despawn, much like squids.
This would make it so that you could have you're very own slime, without worrying about it despawning.
I think they should naturally despawn, but there should be a way to make it permanent, perhaps by giving it actual slime to eat, making it just a little bit bigger, discoloring it to a slight yellow, and it never despawns and sticks out
