It works in a simple way: if the checkbox is checked, as soon as the toolbar box of that checkbox gets empty, its filled with the item of the box above. Lets give an example: In the toolbar box of the third column we got an iron pickaxe, when it get destroyed after a time of use, it will be replaced by the first stone pickaxe. The stone pickaxe will eventually broke too, so it will become replaced by the second stone pick. And if this get broken too, it will be replaced with the stone shovel. If you dont want to use it, you just leave all the boxes un-checked.
With this, you wont need to replace items manually. Imagine building a large railway with this, its great!

Well, my job is done here, bye guys/girls.
PS: the image is not a mod, is just something i made in paint lol
But why not take the two seconds longer to do it yourself?
Carpal Tunnel is a @#$%^. Why add tedium to things, when you could be enjoying them? It's the same reason shift-clicking items was added, and being able to stack in the crafting table.
AKA "There's no point to shift-clicking. Why not spend 2 more seconds just manually drag and dropping each item one at a time."
Every second spent dragging and dropping items, is a second I could have been exploring or fighting mobs. This isn't drag'n'drop'craft.

Exactly. For example, you have to stop mining in your branch mine, wich is already tedious, to do another tedious thing. That pisses me off a bit...

Wait... you can shift-click things? GENIUS. I seriously needed to know about that sooner.
On topic: Meh, I sorta support this.

I like it! Great idea. This will make fighting the mobs much easier. Can't tell you how many times Ive been swinging away only to have my sword disappear and then get blown up by a creeper while Im in my inventory menu.
Certainly saves time with food. I guess I support.
