My suggestion is that the piston ignores the trains tracks (normal, detector and booster tracks) and instead only pushes the cart that is on top of it. This would allow for an automated start for mine carts, piloted or not piloted. Simply clicking a button to activate the piston would get rid of the manual push start and allow for a smooth two-way rail road system. Considering this is not a major update to the game it could be implementing during any patch.
Why not just start with a booster track for a starting boost? Then you could have a push-button start and people could continue to make crazy piston track...things
No it would not start the mine cart, it would just push it onto the detector rail and the mine cart would just stay stationary. If you were to put the redstone wiring to the booster track then shift the piston over it would possibly work however you have to place minecarts on rails, which would mean that you would have to place a rail down next to the piston every time you want to place the minecart (if its a 2 way track then it can roll into place possibly).
@SPG: i was referring to the piston suggestion for more compact spaces, like mines.
I think this is all quite unnecessary, they should just make it so that a minecart pushed by a piston actually gives the minecart momentum. Right now it only shoves the cart one block forward.
That was also what i was getting at, I guess I should make that more clear.
Having the piston push the track is actually quite useful in some cases. Why remove those uses just so that pistons can do the exact same thing as a powered rail? That only serves to take away options.

I'm almost 100% positive that this have been suggested before but i'll suggest it again anyways
I'd rather have it that the pistons don't destroy tracks when pushing blocks up/down, rather than taking away their ability to push tracks. Powered rails are simpler and less costly for an automatic start; I don't see much need for this.
Rails take up a block of space, so you can't make a piston over-right that space.

NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.
