Multiblock entities are hard to code, which is why gluing blocks together isn't in the game yet. Perhaps instead of being able to glue any block to any other block it would be simpler to program a special type of multiblock item you could craft.
I suggest adding Iron Girders to the game. It would simply be an entity two blocks large like this:
You'd place it and break it as one single unit. A piston pushing or pulling any part of a girder would push and pull the entire thing. And a pushed or pulled girder could move other blocks adjacent to it.
You could also push other girders with a girder, allowing a single piston to move multiple columns of blocks at once like so ( is a piston, girders are reprsented by numbers):
[1] [1] [2] [2] [3] [3]
As for the crafting recipe, I think it should be iron intensive whatever it is, but I haven't given it much thought beyond that.
The real problem is not that it is hard to, just Notch has not the ability or the "time" to do it.
Whats great about this though is Notch already found a tutorial to do multi-blocks and they are implemented in-game( doors, beds ) so it should be fairly easy to add... depending on how they made it upon themselves to add new blocks :wink.gif:

[quote=Badgerz]You have to keep in mind that people are stupid.
[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<
