So right now the only way to get meat is by killing a pig. Any way of killing it will give you pork chops, everything from attacking with a sword to pushing the pig off a cliff or just by lighting it on fire.
And at the same time killing sheeps and cows does not give you any meat. So how about having a butchering knife that you need to use in order to get any usable meat out of an animal?
What I'm thinking is that killing a cow with a sword gives you leather, killing it with a knife gives you beef. The same with the sheep.
To balance it out then all other kind of meat than pork chops should replenish less health when eating it. That way pigs will still be the best food source, but in a pinch you could also slaughter a sheep to get some food.
With this suggestion pigs would need to provide an additional resource in addition to meat, so maybe something like bristle that can be crafted into a brush?
as long as you can still get cooked porkchop when you kill a pig with fire that is. :biggrin.gif:
Actually, burning an animal should always give meat (as burning a sheep would also burn the wool, and burning a cow would also burn the leather).
Thus making fire a useless tool if you want a specific drop. It would make mob traps for passive mobs more fun as well as you would need to choose the killing method based on what you want to gather. For all kinds of meat you can use a lava blade, for wool, leather and bristle(?) you would need to make a drop or drowning trap.
I think a cool idea would be to add a butcher block, or something. When you kill an animal, you get the animal corpse, which stacks, but doesn't do anything. Then you can take it to your butcher station and get leather, wool, meat from it.
