Ever hate having to remember your crafting recipes? No? I didn't think so. But try and remember when you were new. Do you remember having to constantly look things up, having no idea how to make them over again? I remember that in my days as a newbie. I think that it would be pretty awesome if a player could hold a book in their inventory while crafting in order to save how they crafted things. Right clicking with the book would open it and they could choose which item (that they have already crafted before) for it to show them the recipe for. Storing on bookshelves? Questionable. I also realize that books may be pointless by the time the new player has access to actually making a book. I don't see that. All you need is 9 sugarcane and you can make a book. Perhaps the player could even spawn with one automatically..? I figured that would be a longshot. Anyone else have ideas to share about this?
I apologize if this is painful to read... I type fast and am simply H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E at organizing threads... Please don't let that ruin the idea. :sad.gif:

Tl;Dr version: Learn to read.
If you have an ipod, they have thousands of free apps that help you remember crafting recipes. I think one of the best parts about minecraft is finding out recipes for yourself...
What if when you had the recipe book highlighted, and clicked on the crafting bench, you could have a list to the side of it with the recipes. When you click on the recipe, it would automatically place the items in the correct layout, given you have them in your inventory?
If you don't have a required item, then it would show that item in the needed slot(s) faded out. That way, you know what your missing to make something.
Each click on the recipe would add one more of those items to the crafting slots, while right clicking adds the max possible based on the item required you have the least of.
Also, only recipes that you've made before show up in the book.
This way, it's more about convenience than remembering how to make things.
I know, but even if you know how to make something, you still have to individually drag everything to the correct slot on the crafting table. Using the recipe book, it automatically places them for you if you have the needed items. Saves on carpal tunnel.

So you don't have to do anything? It does it for you.

It merely saves time for those that know how to make things, but hate having to drag and drop the correct items into the slots. If you have the items, clicking on the corresponding recipe puts them in that orientation for you.
I'd much rather be able to click on the "sign" recipe, and have it take 6 of my wood planks and one stick, and put it in the crafting table automatically, than click several times, placing all of those things in the right place. It's not like I wouldn't eventually be able to put those items in the table slots myself, but I'd rather do it in one click, than several. Merely a time saver for convenience and giving my clicking fingers a rest.
