I had an idea regarding half blocks. When you create half blocks from stone, it should make a stone half block, not marble, which should become it's own block. Marble would be made from putting limestone in a furnace (irl it come from metamorphosed limestone), and limestone is found in caves. Any support, suggestions, or general feedback is greatly appreciated!
Limestone could appear at about the same rate as gravel does. Marble could also naturally appear in the deeper levels, but breaking it results in limestone.
Limestone could break a little faster than stone, and marble a little slower.
I was thinking that limestone is as common in caves as stone is now, but it's the only place to find it. Marble wouldn't be terribly practical, mostly just decoration, so why not make it common? After all, caves are made from the dissolving of limestone.
I suppose they could make things like pressure plates out of the materials, but I can't think of anything more than that. But then again, Notch is amazing, if he puts this in he'll think of something. As for the dissolving, in water, I think that would be a bad idea, because then you couldn't put something like a pool in a marble/limestone building.
