I looked through a lot of the suggestions and saw there were calls to put maps on walls, but nothing about making maps more dynamic. Meaning, I would like to add "points of interest" to maps. I'd love to add waypoints to maps and title them so that myself and other players on the server can mark down unique areas, such as large caves, mountains, buildings, etc. To take it a tad further, maybe these waypoints can be seen when running around as well (if enabled), similar to the way another player's name looks in your server so that you can see the title of the place you're approaching.
This would likely require a new map ui though, the current form where u drag your mouse down to it wouldn't work. Perhaps by default your character wouldn't move when looking at the map, which would free up your cursor and allow you to place waypoints. Thoughts?
I think it has been suggested... its good though. We need it.

I don't think the simple engin is up to the task. Wile it would be nice to have a fallout 3 style map marker system This isen't the game for it.
maps in olden times(how I feel this game fits in) were in accurate and void of the detailed terrain. The map as it is now is sorta like a satalite picture. But old maps were just full of location info.
SO maby a wall mounted large map using like 2x2 maps in crafting table that you can customise like a sign. Using a simple paint interface. It would hafto be somthing you hafto bascilly do yourself.

Putting markers on a map is well-within minecraft's engine.

NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.

I honestly lol'd when I read that part. I mean the fact that it displays where you currently are on the map alone should be able to prove that you could mark stuff on the map.
