OKAY, so we've read a nether update or two. This is the nether update thread where we post all of the other, related threads and also the thread where we post our own ideas and incorporate them into one big suggestion.
First off, I was thinking that pigmen, you know, where's their source of, well, "infection" so to speak? Did they descend into the firey pits of the Nether decidedly or were they pushed in? Are they servants of the Nether's leading pigman? Anyways. So my idea basically serves that pigmen are normal pigmen until they cast through the nether portal (if in fact in 1.8 if pigmen are added they have the ability to enter portals into the nether, or in fact disappear into the unknown by a "random force".) which through a strain of portal-induced mutation, they come through as a zombiepigman who is hostile unless they have done a deal with you (which only lasts for a second before they are called to attack from one of the nether portal's torturing noises.) The pigmen have seem to fallen servants to the leader Pigman, who is the biggest, and is found randomly in the top, or bottom most part of the Minecraft world (seeming as if the Nether is a kid's game version of Hell.) But there's only one, it has a ton of hearts, and the noises you hear from the portals, are its screams and commands to the Pigmen slaves.
The pigmen have rebelled to the P-man because he is obviously a power-hungry idiot and they started making villages. However, they are still slaves, and when they come across other mobs, they tend to misunderstand what they're saying and take them as slaves too however the mobs will kill the pigmen eventually (so it definitely helps to help the pigmen out) and the Pigman comes out during the day as a normal pigman, however, if the person attacks him, he is suffocated 5 hearts, taken to the nether, and burned.
What should the pigmen do about, well, wolves and such if they are in the nether considering that if Wolves are allowed into the nether they must have a purpose (will they attack mobs? will they sit? will they just follow?) which might be to attack the pigmen, so what will they do about that? Should there be a way to, well, make the pigmen normal again through some type of nostalgic routine?
Also, portals. What I was thinking is that, well, the portal clogs up your screen ya know and sends you to the nether but shouldn't the portal "blocks" which are not legitimately obtained through the game (unless flint and steel counts) be allowed to be in through some kind of ore, such as like "???? Ore" until you burn it through the furnace and it becomes the portal blocks or ignots to make a certain kind of tool that makes it easier to mine Nether blocks such as Obisidian (I have always thought of it as a nether block, even though it is never found there)It should be purple colored, same rate of finding as Diamonds or Gold or Redstone and only come in 1 per vein. You might need to have a pickaxe iron or above to mine it and it has the time of destruction as obisidian if you are using a normal pickaxe unless you're using a portal pickaxe which then mines it very quickly.
Bedrock. You can only mine this with the portal pickaxe, and you immediately fall into the nether upon destruction (however a thing of non-destroyable rock, maybe neadrock? stupid name, but could work) and that would also make furymining easier and more fun for people who want adventure along the way. Let me know your ideas.
I'll stick with using flint and steel to light a portal, as it's already very simple to make a portal, and there's no reason to make it complex.
Bedrock is there for a reason: To keep you out of the lower region of the level (Void). Why destroy a protective barrier?
Besides, I'm pretty sure the Nether is on a seperate "level" than the regular world, so you'd have to load alot of chunks to have it be below the regular world. I'll stick with portals to the Nether.
Mining bedrock is the same as killing yourself with TNT.The curent zombie pigmen are pretty good without a leader. How would you like to enter the nether and everything instantly attacks you?And building the portal is allready complex,so why make it harder. If it was harder only like 10 of 1 bilion people would go into the nether anualy.Sorry, it's a no.
Neither do I, actually, but it was one I had thought of one time and what about the portal thing? Quicker obisidian mining only. And not portal ore, now, like NethOre?

Same here, I dont really like the portal idea.
