I think that trees, as some of them can have branches or roots, look very out of place. My suggestion is that the wood block at it's purest state (in the impossible occasion that there was a single wood block) should be completely covered in bark. It should only have the barkless texture if there was a wooden block in adjacent to it. In that direction. Much like cacti but for all four directions. In this suggestion I search to make trees look less misplaced and unnatural and huggable just like creepers. Also, when harvesting wood it would be changed into a different block but with the same wood texture, this shouldn't be too much of a hassle as it only changes one recipe, planks. In order to not ruin log cabins.

I suggest that naturally generated log blocks have 2 texture palletes.
Texture A will have a full face of bark covering.
Texture B will have the sides bark covered and the top and bottom colored like a tree core(how it is now)
Most of the tree will be detailed with texture B, but the parts of the tree where more logs are not connecting will use texture A for the logs.
For no second I imagine this will be revolutionary, nor very big. My suggestion is that logs whom have no long over them when they spawn should seem uncut, visa versa with blocks underneath, this could just make it seem less out of place as already implemented with cacti. Simple enough.
How so? I did it anyway, but I would like a reason for my labor, the couple of sentences I have written, although of lower quality than my usual work is more descriptive and more cleanly written than most threads here.

Maybe there could be a use for the bark ( I can't think of one now but i'm sure other can maybe it could be another waste block or something that you can toss into the furnace) and maybe just maybe there could be different types of roots for different types of elixirs of sorts like regular roots could be able to make you hit harder and be faster while other roots do something awesome to you idk maybe one root could make you trip off a cliff because of how high you are.
Also there should be a use for branches with branches should come a knife to sharpen a knife you can make out of cobble or gravel some stick and voila the branches could be sharpened to be used as a spear or for the much needed FURNITURE also you could use the knife to cut the branches and toss the into the furnace they wouldn't be like sticks since in real life branches tent to be heavy and thick.
And maybe you could jump on the branches to get in the trees and save you one night when you realize you're miles from home and there's nothing you can do. ( maybe a new item like rope to help you with getting into the tree for hasty escapes and other various uses)
