If you have an issue with planes, please look away from this thread. These ideas are for a mod and will NOT ruin your vanilla game. If, however, you have a problem with the way my idea flows, I'd love to hear your comments to make it better.
So, imagine this:
Massive suspension bridges spanning chasms, entire city blocks of office buildings, towers.... ummm... towering to the sky, kilometers of multi-lane highways - all constructed with the greatest of ease using pistons to build stone modules (already possible in Minecraft) and the ability to move them to anywhere (not yet possible).
What am I talking about? Not sure, really.
I've been watching some YouTube videos of peepz creating mechanisms that make buildings like bridges, houses, etc. - often under 'self repairing buildings' - by putting those new pistons to use. Using some water and lava, stone blocks are created and then moved into place by the newly added pistons to make walls and floors into most shapes imaginable. Let's call these buildings modules from now on. This is already possible in Minecraft.
All that's missing to be able to build the kind of infrastructure that I was thinking of in that list up there is a way to move those modules. The first couple of ideas that come to mind are:
Construction Helicopters (it's not that crazy; there are already mods for planes). Shouldn't pose too many problems (that I can think of) in terms of implementation: helicopter hovers over module, helicopter picks up module, helicopter takes module to wherever, helicopter gently drops module.
OR
Tracks and Cranes (Minecraft already has small mine cart tracks, but I was thinking something bigger. Maybe two or three sets of tracks together). The tracks could carry the module in a big cart (so that you don't have to worry about how it looks while turning on the tracks) to a crane near the construction site that picks the module out of the cart and places it.
Sure, maybe this is too much trouble for single-player - might as well turn no-clip mode on - , but multi-player has the kind of manpower to make it work. Let's say you make three or four module building systems for differently shaped modules: It should only take a couple of people not much time to place the framework of a large structure or of many large structures. The time and effort saved can go into customizing each building 'by hand' - putting windows, decorations, and custom bits and pieces in - to make each building different than the last.
Let me know what you think. I think it could work and the fact that I'm excited about the possibility makes me think that others might find it worthy of a look too.

ooh prepare for serious haters. I personally like the ideas. But these modern ideas don't really go over well with some.
wow... helicopters... in a desert islands with only pigs , cows , chickens and monsters... makes sense!
As I mentioned, there's already a planes mod and there are a lot of people that are fans of that. If you like planes in Minecraft, I doubt you'd have a problem with helicopters. Obviously, you're against that.
Also, I'll keep that in mind, FuryRising. I suppose I should have posted this on a Minecraft mods site. I imagine this being well received by the Industrial Craft crowd. I just got too excited to contain myself and posted here first. In the meantime, I look forward to unnecessarily scathing commentary.

So , you are saying that because its a mod it should be on vanilla?
i think you dont know what are mods... because... MODS AND VANILLA ARE NOT THE SAME!!!!

No problem. You have much worse coming though lol. Man those gun threads are torn apart. I suggest having a line at the beginning saying "If you have an issue with planes, please look away from this thread. These ideas are for a mod and will NOT ruin your vanilla game. If, however, you have a problem with the way my idea flows, I'd love to hear your comments to make it better."

So , you say this idea is for a mod ? Ah okay , so explain why it is posted in suggestion and not mod discussion or " Request ideas for mods " section ?
It would be good if you ask a moderator to move it there because if it is posted here everyone is going to think it is for vanilla.
Oh yeah , next time read the rules so you will know that ideas posted in this section are for the actual game.

Good idea. I actually just copy/pasted that. Thanks.
I wasn't looking to push for this in the vanilla game in particular. Just thought it was a nice idea and wanted some feedback.

Sorry. I wrote the entire thing in a moment of ecstasy. I wasn't thinking straight. I will indeed ask a moderator to do that.
