My idea is to add drapes to the game. They'll be entities like paintings, but only 1x1 in dimension. You make them by placing a wool block in each of the 9 slots on a crafting table. The finished drape would then be a 1x1 painting colored to match the location of the wool. So if you placed 8 white wool around the edge and 1 black wool in the middle you'd get a drape colored that way.
I crunched the numbers for the number of possible combinations, and it's staggering. There will be 68,719,476,736 combinations. A daunting task indeed, but I think a worthwhile one.
Currently decorating walls with wool leaves everything very flammable, and this way you could cover your wall in red without losing structural support or increasing the likely hood of your house disappearing while you're offline. Why not go ahead and let it be placed on the ground too, so you can carpet as well as paint?
Quite like it, however maybe limit the combinations, as currently the only way to do that is create 68,719,476,736 new block entities. Maybe put a wool "frame" then wool in the center and a GUI would pop up of your base gui with a few patterns?
