There was a time when stepping on redstone dust would remove it, allowing trip wires to be made. This no longer happens (and all the redstone engineers have sighed in relief).
But I'm suggesting redstone wire - that is, redstone that IS destroyed when a mob/player steps on it. This redstone wire is in addition to the redstone currently in game.
It is crafted with string and redstone dust, and is placed in a manner similiar to redstone dust. The different is that the redstone wire texture is more subtle, less visible (better for traps).
The redstone (trip :tongue.gif:)wire would allow traps to be made, for example. A redstone wire could hold a piston in the extended position. But when the redstone wire is destroyed by a would-be thief, the current no longer reaches the piston, it retracts, and the lava sneakily hidden above the piston is allowed to flow down and ruin someones day.

Curse PremiumPressure plates can be destroyed, rendering the trap useless.
If this is destroyed, the trap will activate anyway.
