My suggestion will be about combat , but unlike other suggestion tha talk about adding 40 new weapons this suggestion will add only 1 thing that will make the game combat way better.
First part : Speed
To make this idea fit it is needed different speeds , but i am not goin gto talk about rpg bullsh*t about leveling and stuff to make you faster , it would be like : the more you run , the faster you go , similar to parkour physics that are used in some games.
2nd part : Colitions
If a player touches other player it will push him a little , but this idea extends it :
If you get pushed because of a colition with another player or mob , you can lose a little control for some seconds , if the player goes walking and hits you with his body you will lose 50% of your mouse control for 2 seconds.
If the player comes faster it will push you harder , the maximun hit you can get is losing your mouse control for 10 seconds at 50%
How this would work :
When i say lose mouse control i dont mean that you cant move it , i mean the player falling and you will obviusly have problems with the mouse if the player is falling , that is an obvius part.
If a player goes at a really hard speed it could push so hard that it would make you fall totally , that means like the same way when you are sleeping , and you will stand in like 5 - 10 seconds , that is the max.
as i said before the minimun is lose a little control of your body but not falling 100%.

How this would make better combat ?
This would lead to awesome strategies in PVP or even with mobs.
example :
you walk back some blocks , then run to your enemy , you increse your speed that when you hit him you let him on the ground and then with your sword you can start hitting him without him being able to attack well because he loses control of his body because you pushed him really hard.

and probably jumping before hitting the other player will cause some kind of x2 effect , that means you will hit him even harder , and would be easier to make him hit the ground!

Now , if you push them that wont deal any damage AT ALL , not even if you make him hit the ground , that will not deal any damage ,because that would be very overpowered , this is just for strategies , so swords will be neaded to kill something or somebody.

I hope you like this idea , i find awesome an idea of combat that does not includes 200 new weapons that are just the same but with names like : Fire sword , Water Sword , Magic sword , so agree if you dislike all those dumb ideas about making the same thing but with an element or some kind of magic power.
Running ability would be cool to have in the game and same with the collision. The only problem i have with your idea is that you lose control. I don't see i as a huge problem because i see how you when you get pushed you lose control/balance if the push is strong enough.
All around this would be a cool thing to be implemented into the game.

I'm not sure about exact details, but falling from a height (which i assume includes falling after you jump) is in the next update and it will increase the damage you do.

So somebody wants notch to actually add speed? Well I like the idea. I mean now if you run like 1000 blocks we don't want you to run 10000 blocks per second, come on. But yes this idea does sound good if you limited it so it didn't become an over excessive speed.

I thought creepers were tough... well when you kill em with your fist you're like me- thinking creepers are weak
well notch said he was toying with the idea of leveling. but perhaps all he needs is stuff like this. the more you use a sword the better you get with a sword. the difference would be marginal and it would take a long time to make any difference but it would encourage players to play some more with some sort of objective. i think that this was partially what notch had in mind with stats and achievements. also this could do the same with a pickaxe. if you mine like 100,000 worth of block damage with a pick you can mine faster or something.

I couldn't really understand this post very well, due to the atrocious grammar set-up (Yes, I'm a grammar nazi. You have to be one when making suggestions), so I can't really critique it.
I like the idea but not how it works. I think if you have armor on you should have a higher chance to knock the other player/monster down then if you had no armor on. Also if this does get implemented Notch should add a new type of armor that decreases your chance to get knocked down but slows you down. But I don't like the speed part you should get a minor speed boost while your in combat when you walk X amount of steps. But other than that I really like the idea. I hope notch implements this into the game. (sorry for wall of text and to many changes)

1 - 3 blocks running = x1 speed
4 - 10 blocks = x1.5 speed
10 or more blocks = 2x speed
so the maximun you will run will be the double of the actual speed , because woaaah , that would lag a lot!

Its understandable to criticize someone for poor grammar when you're on a forum where you can safely assume that all of the member are from a primarily english speaking country. minecraftforums.net is not one of those websites where you can safely assume that everyone grew up with english as their first language.
The grammar isn't great but it is good enough that you can understand what he is trying to suggest. Cut him some slack.
