Imagine... you're walking through the forest, and you come to a clearing. Tall grass stretches across it and to the trees at the other side. But you notice a gap. Perhaps a hole where a creeper exploded. Perhaps the entrance to a cave. Who knows? But you feel mildly interested, and there isn't a whole lot else you can do in this field, or in the surrounding area for that matter, so you decide to take a peek inside. Holy hell. Fog obscures the bottom. A patchy, partially destroyed spiraling passageway rifles down the hole. It is about nine blocks wide, and you can't even tell how far down it goes. You feel uneasy about it. Irregardless, you are rather bored, and this strange terrain configuration would certainly give you something to do. You slowly descend the rather deliberate-looking passageway, jumping over small gaps and filling in ones you don't think you can clear. The hole stretches down into what feels like the bedrock layer. You see something at the bottom of it. Perhaps a... mass of a new block? Best to take a closer look. There's a chest sitting next to it. You open it, and find a wealth of iron and other useful minerals. The object still sits below you, whatever it is. It opens. A mouth. Rows of teeth, like the mouth of a squid suddenly appear at the bottom. You glance up. The sky is but a bead of blue at the top of the hole. You run. You dash up the passageway, jumping over gaps. The thing at the bottom smashes up through the hole, destroying the passageway as it ascends. It is just a little slower than you, but gains proximity as you clamber up the passageway. You reach the top and run away from the hole. The horrible beast protrudes from the hole at a height of about a block and a half. It lets out a bone-shaking roar and descends back into the abyss. Holy hell.
I think that about sums it up. Giant pits with treasure and lovecraftian horrors inside of them. Once you open and close the chest, the thing wakes up and gives you about three seconds of a head start. Hitting it will also wake it up. It destroys everything it hits, but can only travel straight up from where it spawns. It would look kind of like the mouth of a squid, but three dimensional. Falling into it would cause suffocation.
Sound good?

I don't know sled teams but I do know I put my dog on an electric treadmill once and dangled a chicken leg. Treadmill puppy ensued.
I cant imagine fighting something like that. What if you were to make tnt and just have the monster gobble it up?
There a boss like that in every Zelda game xD

NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.
I love those bosses, they make me feel awsome to throw a bomb in the mouth of dinosaur/other right before it breathes flames at you. and also, your ideas for the abbys sounds pretty awsome, but really, you go down and get the items run like heck, get out, and now there is a perfectly useless hole in the ground, with a Dune-like sandworm thing at the bottom

Giant LOZ monsters eating staircases in deep pits of death may be better than 97% of the crap I've seen today, but they're still not that great. Plus the amount of effort to amke these.....and the lag it would cause....it'd be horrendous!
sorry but that intro was too damn long to read.
Judging by the summary - the idea is good and I strongly support making all holes and tunnels and underwater tunnels dangerous and interesting. But that is not a simple modification for the game. I dobt developers will bother with comlexities, when actual gameplay already has bugs and things to improve/
Sorry but your attention span problem would probably best be solved with a fistful of pills and a nap.
Also, about that last part - are you saying people should only post about bug fixes on the suggestion forum? Because that sounds about like the most boring idea I've ever heard.

Not really. It would just be a large box, about 8.5-9 blocks across with a hole in it, a fairly simple mouth-texture and a rotating animation. Its actual nature wouldn't cause anymore lag than a creeper or several mobs on screen, as its just an animated object which destroys things it touches.
EDIT: Also, I don't really like the LOZ comparisons. It seems more like Dune to me.

Friendship is very magical

I feel ignored :/ This just doesn't seem overly Minecraft-y to me.

I love it.
