I've been wanting to build a sort of elevator with the new pistons lately. Once they can pull open pistons I can do this, but for now I'll have to wait.
So, if they ever get to pull pistons, I would like something called whitestone ore. It looks like any usual ore, but white.
The uses of this would be in electronics, placed ANYWHERE, walls, ceiling, floors, but it is NOT like redstone at all.
What it could do is keep switches that are connected by whitestone in sync. In essence, if a lever is off, all other levers connected to it will be off to.
This would be useful for many things:
~ Activating or deactivating pistons from either height of up or down (if you are at the top of where the pistons go, or at the bottom, you can still control the pistons to open or close)
~ Mass synced firing of dispensers (yes, I know redstone can do this, but this would do a lot more without repeaters due to infinite range)
Having switches that stay in sync in multiplayer would allow for perfect timing for entering a spleef arena. Neither team can get out until the door controller lets them spleef, allowing for fair timing at all times.
Actually this is a very good idea. For example, if you want an object to open from 2 different ends, you would require (well, at least with my redstone knowledge) 2 buttons, each connect to one input of a T flip flop. With this however, all you have to do is connect the 2 levers with whitestone, and you can easily achieve the same effect.

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works
Oooor Notch could just change how redstone works a little so we don't need another ore.

I can't see how would that work. Please elaborate.

By simply giving redstone the effects that whitestone would have.

So how would this work? If I were to create an AND gate or a NAND gate, how would I be able to make it so that it functions properly, instead of functioning like it does now. Or if I were to create a locking mechanism, because all switches were to be affected when the redstone is powered, it would make it useless.

True, true. Many redstone mechanics would be broken. Either way, I think it's a bit too small of a difference to be made into it's own new ore.

you could make a redstone logic gate. you make a contraption that would change the redstone being on or off. if you go on the wiki it shows you them, and i don't really want to make a whole other line with white stone. sometimes im short on space. but some times these logic gates are difficult to make.
or you could do some redstone wiring to produce the same effect. there is a huge section on that here
It is impossible to make it so that switch A, turns on or off depending on the state of switch B.
There is a way around this, by making it so that you replace each switch with buttons, and connect both inputs to the end of a T flip flop, but this requires a lot of wiring, that can be easily achieved through using whitestone.

Yes, but sticky pistons only pull closed pistons, not open pistons.

look under logic gates. these are fairly difficult to understand
