Notch implemented leaf blocks that can be built wherever you want, and that's great, but is it really of much use if it still needs a wood block to support it? Should it not be able to live without decaying, even without woodblocks? I mean... Sure, we no longer need to grow trees to get leaves where we want, but now we need something similar to a redstone circuit just to get a small leaf hedge, hiding wood underground or in the middle of the hedge and whatnot. It completely ruins my aesthetic ideas for a nice garden. :sad.gif:
That happens for trees, yes, but I guess only because leaves cannot live without a tree block near them, or a nearby leaf with a tree block near it.
Unfortunately, that's not the case for putting leaves on the ground; They just die, no matter what, if not supported by wood. Note that I didn't even test the whole wood thing; Maybe leaves would die even WITH wood? :ohmy.gif:
I know, that's a solution, but it feels kind of unnecessary and inconvenient.
Things like that help you be creative. Just put down the stupid wood, as far as SMP goes, nobody notices it unless they try to, and it's just an extra mouse click or two, not so hard...

Until then, place them on logs.
