This suggestion is all about enhancing the Minecraft Sky. It will not add any blocks, mobs, or tools. Instead, it would simply help add more questions as to why Steve is here in the first place and give the player something to look at while they hunker down and wait for the night to pass.
Constellations - Simply put, constellations would be a cluster of stars that make a vague image of something you could relate to. They would only be for Aesthetics. Also, to help simplify it, they would not have any cycles, and would appear in the same place every night. Maybe there could be faint lines between the stars that could be turned on / off? Some examples would be : The Little Creeper , The Big Creeper , The Diamond, etc.
Note - Constellations could be named by the player.
Comets - Comets would randomly appear and slowly drift across the sky for about 1/2 - 1 Minecraft week. Comets would vary in color and size. It could be possible for Comets to affect how the game plays. For example, a red comet, AKA Herobrine, would cause increased enemy spawn rate, while a blue comet, Notch, would lower enemy spawn rates or increase plant / tree growth.
Note - Comets could possibly be named by the Player when they fly overhead. So each time it re-appears, a text would pop up in the corner stating "Comet _______ is looming above!"
Meteor Showers - Meteor Showers would streak across the sky much like a comet, but would only last for 1-2 nights and would have no affect on the game.
Binary Star System - Every time a world is generated there is a 5% chance of the world having a binary star system. This would have no affect, but would make the world that much more enjoyable.
Note - As suggested below (darvince), Binary stars could possibly affect how bright your world is during certain times of the day.
Multiple Moons - Like the Binary Stars, there could be a 5% chance of a world having 2-3 moons, all varying in sizes. This would have no affect either.
Additional Planets - The world will always spawn with at least 2 planets. One planet COULD be the Nether, a red and desolate planet that shines bright in the sky. Any additional planet could be named by the player.
Star Types - When your world is spawned, there is a chance you would get a different star. For example, you might get a Red Giant Star, or a small Blue Dwarf. These could either be just for looks, or could affect the game play (see note below).
Note - These stars COULD determine what the world would look like. A further away, weaker star would make the world more desolate and cold while a closer, stronger star would make it warmer.
Moon Types - Like the stars, the player's world has a chance of spawning a different looking moon. Moons can easily be categorized by what they are made out of. Some examples are Cobblestone Moons, Netherrack Moons, Dirt Moons, Iron Moons, etc.
Aurora Borealis - Also known as the Northern Lights. This would make a streak of dazzling colors dance across the sky for 1-2 Nights. (Badprenup)
And last but not least, a UFO. I'm not all that sure about this one, but it would be interesting if a small blur shot across the sky in the corner of the screen. Of course, no one is sure if it was a UFO or something else... :dry.gif:
And that's all I have for now. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks for reading. (I'll add more detail later)...
Edit- Added Moon Types and Star Types to Suggestion.
The only thing with binary star system is that it should be like your normal bright one. Then the other one is basically like the moon except its duration in the sky is chosen randomly, and it would make the light level 6 on the surface if it appears at nighttime.
For example:
Minecraft time is 0 to 24000 with sunrise being 0.
Normal Minecraft sun from time 0 to 12000 in the sky with full brightness effects.
Binary sun shows from time 8000 to 16000 in the sky with full brightness effects.
I support this idea, even though this is lower priority eyecandy that should be added after actual content.

The sky is so boring, in fact, minecraft is so boring. The game needs to spice itself up!
yesyesyesyes 1000x YES.
For example:
Minecraft time is 0 to 24000 with sunrise being 0.
Normal Minecraft sun from time 0 to 12000 in the sky with full brightness effects.
Binary sun shows from time 8000 to 16000 in the sky with full brightness effects.
EDIT: Made it so it isn't a run-on sentence.

I agree. I just decided to put that there is the possibility of it being a planet for another theory as to what the Nether is. :tongue.gif:
