Not sure if this has been mentioned before, or if maybe it has been mentioned fulfilling a different purpose, but I think mirrors should be implemented into the game. "Mirrors?", you say, "why would I want a block so I can just look at myself? I can just switch to third person or open the inventory! Don't be a stupid noob! Fag! Homo! etc." (the flaming continues). Well its because mirrors could be used as a light source for dark caverns using natural light! Mirrors could be placed at an angle at the mouth of caves to divert light into the cave. Of course this would only produce a narrow beam of light and definitely would not be adequate to light up a cavern. This is where the mirrors partner block comes into play, Diffusion Blocks!(or prism whatever you guys like) Diffusion blocks would absorb and expel the light channeled by mirrors to light up a large area of a cave and still let the light through so that more mirrors could be placed at different angles to divert natural light further into the cave system. Now you may think "why not just use torches or glowstone to light up a cave?" Well because glowstone (although easier to craft since the update) is relatively hard to procure and really doesn't light up that much of an area, AND because notch has mentioned nerfing torches in the future and possibly making them run out altogether. A diffusion block placed in the beam of light would divert enough light to light up a 32x32x32 cubic area of natural sunlight. Much like glass blocks Diffusion blocks will shatter if punched but mirrors can be picked up and reused.
Here is my proposed recipe for a mirror:

this would produce 4 mirrors.
Here is the diffusion block: [ ] [ ]

Let me know what you guys think about the idea, and please be logical and courteous.
He also mentioned lanterns, which would replace the use for something like this.
True, however we will still need a standing light source lest we have to wade through a tide of hostile mobs every time we want to explore or travel through parts of our mines we've already stripped of minerals.
Mirrors would add a big change I think and I like this suggestion. Mirrors could complex mazes and combo looks with redstone. You could even take it as far as having a reflection from a beacon block so the light is redirected to a certain area off the mirror. And maybe with that add "recievers" that absorb the light and activate a piston door or a redstone current.

The light should lose power as it passes through / /bounces off things.
Light lost per bounce
_____________ Mirror__Prism
Iron -------->.....3.......5
Gold -------->.....2.......3
Diamond ---->.....1.......1
This way the light cannot be extended forever, besides it only works during the day!
