Basically blocks that reflect like a mirror. That's pretty much it.
I got the idea when I was watching the Digital Diamonds video where that guy made a scale model of his house (which would be a useful map to have if I ever feel like robbing him, ammirite?) and he was showing his bathroom and said something about "this is the mirror, even though it can't reflect because there's no way to do that" or something to that effect, and I thought "that's actually a really good idea for a block."
So I'm thinking that in addition to using it as a mirror for looking at reflections (or making shiny rooms and structures), you could also use it to re-direct light. For like a more efficient natural lighting system or to extend the range of torches (or make disco balls or something, I don't know).
Mirror blocks would be made like so:
And inclined mirrors (for redirecting light) would be made like so:
And maybe a third version that's a block which is only shiny on one side like so:
Because iron is somewhat silvery colored. Perhaps replace the ingots with iron blocks. Either one makes sense.
If you can also use the inclined mirror to make periscopes and similar optical devices, then you could theoretically make a more complicated optical device that serves the same function as a closed-circuit security camera (without the ability to record).
Although, if the light re-direction physics were slightly more complicated, you could make curved mirrors and lenses and such, and use them to make things like a camera-obscura or if an optical-film item is included, you could actually take pictures (maybe with a piston shutter over the lens). The film could either be printed as a photograph (similar to a painting) or turned into slides and projected using an optical device. Someone really savvy at building might be able to make a carousel projector or even a video projector using many slides and some sort of setup with pistons and repeaters.
I don't know what the recipes for optical film, and lenses would be. The recipe for photographs would probably involve film + painting, and the recipe for slides would probably involve film + glass. The recipe for curved mirrors world probably involve inclined mirror + lens.
Okay, on second thought, when I said "that's pretty much it" that was a lie. The more I think about this idea, the more things I think of that you could do with it.

Ooh, and you could use the lenses to make a giant telescope like for an observatory or something, or a scope for your dynamite cannon.
Ooh, or use it to focus light into a laser beam.
Ooh, or combine it with the light-sensor mod to create an analogue of those infrared security tripwires, except with regular light instead of infrared light. Or laser beams.
I was thinking the same thing when i saw the video. The mirror block would be cool, but I think it would have to be made as a mod, since Notch is busy with the MASSIVE (apparently) Adventure update. Ask for a request in the modding section, but I think the mirror itself would need a lot of coding, and a massive mirror like the one in that guys house would probably crash the gamme or give a tooooon of lag.
If large mirrors are too taxing on the rendering engine, then there might be some limitation on how many mirrors you can stack on top of each other. For optical devices, it could be set up so the image only appears on the end mirrors somehow.
mirrors have already been suggested, please use the search feature or google to check before you post
Have film, lenses, curved mirrors, and optical devices been suggested? Because I really think this idea has a lot more potential than just simple mirrors.
Are we really asking for a commited relationship to a rhinoceros of a woman when we ask you to search?

This would be a nice suggestion, and it was a nice suggestion, the first time it was suggested. The second time was pushing it, and the 200th time was repetetive. Notch (and his developers) have thought of this idea himself or has already heard it. This suggestion is pointless

mirrors in general have been suggested so why not add to that post rather than end up with 50 topics on the same thing?
