I had an idea for a while. This is my first of two ideas today, and I'm going to release it now.
Sometimes I've wanted to craft directly at my chest, and I need to walk a decent distance to my usual crafting table. Yeah, i know i could just carry one, but I feel a bit OCD about carrying once since I could lose it and it takes forever to dig back up without a sword.
A double crafting chest would be able to support 3x6 grids, which could, down the road, maybe open up new crafting possibilities and more room.
For example:
Could be a fishing boat, that would hold fish and poles and other stuff, like a portable water chest. I can see that being used lots.
Anyways, back to main topic. I think you understand my point about being able to craft right where you store things, and also extend space for later crafting recipes.
I also have to leave for the night now, so I'll save the other idea for tomorrow.
And not to be too picky, but what you just described is 6x3, not 3x6.
AND your example was only a 5x2

What deathguardian said. This is totally pointless. Just have a crafting table near by.
And if we start gettng more large crafting recipes, some of them could look like they make no sense. Like my fishing boat. You could craft it in a 3x3, but where would you sit?
And what if both your chest and your inventory are full, and you need to make lots of fresh tools with supplies in that chest and your inventory, but you can't fit them all.
It's the same thing, according to my family's point of view, the order doesn't matter.
When speaking of total area, no, it doesn't matter. But when describing something's shape, it does. If you had plans for a tower that was 32' wide by 345' tall, but you told the engineer make a 345' x 32' foot building (we're pretending everything is 2-dimensional for a bit here), you wouldn't end up with a tower, you'd get a 3 story tall building that was very long.

So? It still fits. I would have thought of a larger thing, had I had time before bed.
Does crafting a glowstone block at a crafting table still work? Yes, it does, despite having 5 extra slots.
