Can we talk about the actual thing and not rant about why/ why not it shouldn't be in the game? That isn't what threads are for.
That's ALL the suggestions thread is for.
We ARE talking about the actual thing. it's part of why it's a bad idea.
Also, bad idea, what if a new person comes along and releases the fog?
Then it eats his world?
THis would also open ALOT of new ways to grief on SMP servers.
Well, the compass isn't very easy to craft, it requires a bunch of resources (obsidian, gold, diamond) to make. Plus no, we aren't talking about the idea, we're debating whether or not it should be added, and anyone who starts a suggestion topic should be expecting it be added, even if it doesn't. So no, that's not what the thread is for.
Can we talk about the actual thing and not rant about why/ why not it shouldn't be in the game? That isn't what threads are for. Now about the armour, what should it be like? I was personally thinking it would be nice to have something white with glowstone trim, a crystal in the middle and black chain mail at the extremities. What do you think?
I would vote that it would be blackish, with a shifting texture.
Well, I don't know about Sting, but I envisioned that this armor symbolizes a light in the darkness, a sole shining saviour from the shadowy evil of the fog. But that's just me, and though I like to think of myself as a major contributor, it is still Sting's idea and thread
Absolutely love the idea, and adding it into the adventure mode would be best in my opinion but if the pieces must be returned to put an end to the fog then there is no profit. No profit means little appeal to actually facing such a daunting event.
To begin with I thought about removing the concept of gear in the obelisk and replacing it with just a “Cloudy Orb“. When the orb is removed an eerie sound is heard and you inexplicably die. Sent back to your original spawn point the time of day is set to midnight and you are forcibly equipped with the full set of ancient gear and sword, as well in your inventory you can find a “Clear Orb”. This starts the progression of the fog and accompanying monsters. As long as the orb remains out of the obelisk you cannot unequip the gear and sword nor can you change your spawn point from the original spawn. You can immediately return the orb to halt the progression of the fog but what ever progress it has already made is not undone. This can be done to keep the ancient gear but it has some special properties. Asside from having unlimited durability the gear only has stats equal to iron. But wile any piece of the gear is equipped when eat any food you loose health equal to the health you would have gained and you take damage by stepping into light areas. The brighter it is the more health you loose, making traveling during daylight impossible and forcing you to keep distance from placed torches. The sword costs 2 hearts per swing if the full set of ancient gear isn’t equipped, if it is equipped then the sword drains life from enemies healing you for 2 hearts per successful hit.
Now opposite to the general location of the obelisk, the same distance from the original spawn point, is a Sun Temple located at the top of a very tall mountain. Once there you can place the orb and one piece of gear into a pedestal, if left there for the full duration of daylight it will be “Cleansed” resulting in a “Sun Stone” peace of the placed gear and a new orb. The orb progresses as such Clear - Hazy - Foggy - Grey - Black once you have the black orb you can return it to the obelisk to get the fog to slowly recede. The Sun Stone gear being orange and red is also very unique, it has the highest defense but unfortunately has a fairly low durability. When durability reaches 0 it turns black and has unlimited durability but is only as good as leather armor. The durability can be repaired by heating it in a furnace. The armor will set any attacker aflame and the sword will light any monster it strikes on fire.
Here's an idea. For adventure mode, adventure is actually a part of survival, but you start with a cloudy orb, which you can put on randomly generated areas within the game, when the orb turns clear, you know that your on an adventure, and when you complete it, it becomes cloudy again.
I also would propose two new creatures, these two are the only ones that can be found outside the fog and seek out any who are wearing even one piece of ancient gear.
The Seeker
A small bat like creature found in swarms. They do bombing runs hitting for minimal damage and trying to push you towards the fog.
The Lurker
A scorpion like creature with a claw in place of a stinger, this one hides in the darkest of areas (where you are likely to be to hide from the brightness of day in the ancient gear) latching onto you with its long claw and dragging you back towards the fog.
Again just my thoughts, lemme know what you do and don’t like =) was just brainstorming in the car on my way home.
Hmm, yeah, I think I can do that, I may be able to build a demo mod for it, but whatever. So what about the sword? I figured something with a golden blade, and a white crossgaurd.

Another idea:
Plague
This mob is even rarer that Loss, but is way more powerful. Its colors are pale green/yellow. It has 5 hearts.
Instead of dealing direct damage, it becomes invisible, dealing a 1/2 heart every 1-2 seconds, with no knockback, no 'oof' sounds, or camera shake to alert the player. If the player notices the loss of hearts, they must attack in all directions to find it. Once it's attacked it will become visible again, dealing slightly more damage in direct attacks.
The player will not fight this mob for nothing, however, because it drops a golden apple (5% chance) and 3-4 diamonds (40% chance).
Tell me if you think the mob is overpowered or if the rewards are overpowered.

Thank you for diffusing the situation, looks good in my head, the sword i thing should be made with a mystic black material, perhaps having a large shine, but not look like flint or obsidian, ya know, kinda, 'extra dimentinal' type thing, and with the face of anger on the hilt.

If facebook, Myspage, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.

I think, in the spirit of this being 'more hellish then hell.' it should drop slimeballs, worhtless in the situation, crummy old slimeballs.

I think this is something like a Hard mode only type of thing, or something you would say yes or no to when you start a new world.
why not on easy, or med, like the question though, something like, 'do you wish to have a change to combat the fog?'

First off, then that newbie is screwed, and he learns, problem solved, second, I like it to be a mod, so the newbie wouldn't have it at all, and third, since it will be a mod, the programmer could make it SSP only, like mo' creatures, and forth, with the answears I have givin, how is this a bad idea?

Edit1: This is a segment of the first chapter, tell me what do you think.
The Fog
Black Blood
Blood stains the black soil, it's crimson colour grimly lightening up the black surroundings.
"Come on you bastards, my blade still aint dull." the lone human spoke in a hoarse and tired voice.
Shadows circled the human in the fog, growls or whimpers could be heared every now and then. After a few seconds three hounds pounced out of the fog, their heads look like one of a jackal, ribs are exposed, adding to their gruesome appearance. The human swiped with his sword, one of the creatures yelped in pain while the other bit on the blood-stained blade.
His sword stuck, the human sent a fist into the face of the third creature, breaking it's jaw.
"You guys realy are pain!" he shouted, stomping on the second creatures head, resulting in a blood stain on the ground.
The jaw-broken Pain tried to flee but was pierced in the back, the ancient blade pierced through it's flesh like a golden pick axe through stone. The human looked around, trying to see shadows in the fog that are not there, concluding that no beasts were lured by the fight, he continued searching for the portal he seeks.
plese for the sake of humanity, write it out, at least 100 pages, send it to a publisher, get it published, and sell it for one easy payment of 10.99.

Also, at the armor ideas, I like the idea of it being a mix of chainmail and platemail.
heres what I think: shiny-looking white plate chest, black/purple chainmail sleeves, white helmet and boots, and leggings that match the chest.
/facepalm.
On topic: An insane idea, but honestly? Better off as a mod. It just doesn't feel minecraftian.

By balance, do you mean make it totally worthless?
