Arghly. I hit the +reputation button without knowing what it did. I REGRET EVERYTHING. *seppuku*
This idea seems difficult to code and also contradictory to how MC works currently. I like it, but it's definitely flawed. One example: Have you seen the way mobs look? Your descriptions of these new monsters are waaay too detailed to be rendered well.
Also: HFS? Has someone been playing Dwarf Fortress?

If English is your first language, please have at least a basic understanding of how it works.
I have an idea for crafting the compass- an obsidian needle, crafted with a row of obsidian, above a diamond bucket (N/A) with a golden base, a square of gold ingots with a diamond in the middle. I plan to add some pics soon, but I need to get to my Gimp...
I like it, it causes fellings off pain, fear, loss, and agony to the player. But what if... what if you aren't as ready as you thought you where, I feel, that within 6 kilos of the obolisk, should be a safehouse, and in that safe house, the sword of shame, take it, and the armor of defeat, to be immune to all damage and one-shot everything, to beat the fog, but forever be cursed by the cape of Shame, where you will NEVER be able to swing a iron or better sword, or use iron armor or better until you try again, and this time, WIN!!!
An interesting idea, I've also been thinking... To have invincible armor and a never-ending sword right off the bat seems a little easy, perhaps you have to build some sort of charger to get them working at full power?

The armor doesn't make you invincible. It just lasts forever, but still absorbs the same amount of damage as other armor.
The sword only does as much damage as an iron sword.

No. I really don't like that idea. It detracts from the whole point of the fog: an incredible challenge.
Well, not exactly.... I did a little research. Ok so, the protection the armor gives you (how many hearts it will protect you from damage) has some, extremely complicated proportion to that of the item's durability. Now if the durability is set to infinity, then no matter what fraction the protection is, it will also be multiplied by infinity. That makes you have armor with both infinite health and a infinite protection, which is also known as invincibility and that is overpowered.
P.S. Sorry for snapping at you during that last part

What I was tring to say (different account i have) Is that After you try and die, die, die, you have the option of looking for the armor of Defeat, and the Sword of Shame, just so you can get your world back. After the fog, you die, and lose the sword and armor in a pit of fire. Then you have to face the fog again to get rid of the Cape of Shame, witch makes gold and diamond stuff, unuseable, until you at least combat the fog again.

Na, wouldn't have a cape as a reward...
1. Use TMI or Invedit to spawn special compass.
2. Find obsidian/obelisk/lava lake.
3. Take stuff.
4. Hack in Golden Apples, Diamond Swords/Armour, ship ton of other blocks and useful items.
5. With little effort, finish the boss fight/seal off the fog/etc.
6. Easy cape, no effort equired.
Would it be possible to turn off the block eating effect of the fog? Like, have it optional. Some people would probably want to build in these conditions, but the block-eating effect would kind of ruin it.

That was the fix I came up with for SPC and other mods.
@dadpool:
That could actually be an issue...
Perhaps the special armor could have different coding than other armor, and each piece of armor just absorbs a percentage of damage, and never absorb all damage.
I think it would be easier just to have them need to charge them by building a specia charge device. Also, Inventory editors and map editors are't directly modded into the game, so this mod failsafe thing (which I'm still a little iffy about) won't work against it right.
Oh, and what if the fog couldn't eat mossy cobblestone? It's rare, but not so rare that you won't have a supply. That way a guy who fails at it will still have the chance of surviving... Well that and I was gonna make the shrine out of mossy
If there was something, like a huge prize for defeating the fog... I mean, other than the cape, something used for single player... Maybe an ultimate sword, that calls lightning when right clicked, kills mobs in one hit, and has the durability of 3 times the durability if diamonds. Diamond has the best durability on earth. Who said it was from earth...?
And also, you know how you said mods about not being able to make a mod for the cape? There are mods out there that make you not get hurt, fly, etc... so pretty much you can just fly in and stop it, getting the cape no problem.
You don't get to decide if something is TL;DR. You're a fool for thinking otherwise... It's the reader's decision. Your long-winded and poorly written wall of text isn't worth reading, honestly- your suggestion isn't even in the spirit of MC.

I never said that I decided. I was saying that there is no TL;DR version

It is the developers choice as to what the spirit of MC is, not yours. I am merely making a suggestion, not trying to discern the spirit of MC or argue what it is.
Then someone would make a mod that made it so you could get the reward if you had mods. Mods can change ANYTHING about the game. This is impossible to do.
Can we talk about the actual thing and not rant about why/ why not it shouldn't be in the game? That isn't what threads are for. Now about the armour, what should it be like? I was personally thinking it would be nice to have something white with glowstone trim, a crystal in the middle and black chain mail at the extremities. What do you think?
