Why have to feed it? Also, I think Golems should be found in dungeon chests.
I like the idea.
When you place the golem in looks like a wooden steve character, and sits there until activated.
If you red stone current(not sure what to call it) hits the golem it will take it and be activated for 2 light cycles days. When activated, you can feed it food redstone(suggested by mynameisimmaterial) and it will do a job corospoding to the tool you made it with.
If activated redstone is near it, the golem will move along the current.
Give it food to heal.
Sword - Will attack any mobs close by.
Shovel - Dig everything around it.
Pick - Mine everything near it.
Hoe - Till dirt near it.
Axe - Hit all wood near buy.
It will pick up any dropped items near it and put it in storage on the golem (size of a wooden chest).
10 Hearts.
Also, when activating it, it has a 10% chance of attacking you. (Damage Corresponding with tool)
The crafting recipe is bizarre. I like the idea, but I think its kinda bland.

I dont have a sig or an avatar. (Except that (V), which is for Science! You monster.) They're like my name. Immaterial.

Feeding seemed like it made sense to activate it. Maybe you could give it a redstone tortch.
I really like the idea of it being in redstone tortches.
On an unrelated note, how do you get the tiny pictures of materials like in the first post? I have a possibly better idea for the crafting recipe but I don't know how to get those pics in.
Back on topic: Perhaps we could set a redstone path for the Golem to follow? That way we can control its movements.

I would think you feed it to heal it, and give it redstone to power it. Also, whats a light cycle? You meant days?
Finally, how is this a mob?

And that could be an idea. But I think it should not have to have the redstone to move.

I think it is a great concept. After it has, say, mined something, would you right click it and collect its inventory?
