Should Bedrock stay the end marker for digging, or should it be a whole new layer of mining just like stone? Bedrock could possibly only be broken with diamond, (maybe iron) pickaxes, and host more dungeons, ores, caverns, etc. Bedrock could be the next layer to dig through, and then it might hit another stopping block, or if you dug too deep you would just fall into a massive molten core? What do you guys think? Keep in mind that it doesnt have to be the next layer. It could still be the stopping point, but it is underneath another layer, with harder stones. Perhaps new mobs spawn down there like the slimes that only spawn in the deep? Any thoughts at all about this I would greatly appreciate.
The problem is that the team can't code a larger height limit (supposedly) . But if they could...
I think I would add more layers, definitely. Personally, I think Terraria did it right with a molten core at the bottom. I think the possibilities are endless. A lot of good ideas could come of this.

I think the problem isn't so much that they can't as it is it would take too many resources if each chunk had to generate more than 16x16x128, which is pretty big. 16x16x192 or something is so much bigger, and they want minecraft to be able to work on most decent computers. I think that's how it is anyway, based on jeb's conference.
I find myself liking the idea of a molten core you can accidentally fall into. Or even, somehow, manage to build into! Although I'm not sure how you'd build down...
I've had a dream of building a castle in a lava lake for a while now, but I can't find a big enough lava lake outside of the Nether.
I don't like the idea of being able to break bedrock, though. The world needs a definable "bottom"... perhaps bedrock underneath a lava core?
simply no , i never support large terrain generation updates never , if they want to do this notch should change the terrain generation to make it deep enough to support all that you are mentioning , and if you play an old world it would be boring having to start from 0 just to enjoy it.
That´s why notch just makes little changes to terrain generations ( like more rate of ore spawning , or making it a little better , but he nevers adds something as complicated as this because of that reason )
Also , if this gets done , i can imagine in the future someone saying to make it even deeper , that would never end , it should stay as it is.
This is a good idea, but there should be something else at the bottom BESIDES lava. An experienced miner could block off the lava and expose whatever it was on the bottom. Wait...
There should be sort of a reward for getting to the bottom of the world! At the bottom of the lava, there should be a rarer and more durable material/ore than diamond.
Of course, there would still be the extra huuge layer between the bedrock layer and the lava layer.
The question is, what environment is under bedrock? Also, how difficult should bedrock be to break (very difficult, mightneed some new, difficult to get tool). The Nether should not be the environment under the bedrock. It was suggested before, that an anti-nether (aether) http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/76291-the-aetheranti-nether-realm-current-topic-new-nether/
should exist. Maybe, there should be a strange world under the bedrock, and there would be a portal to the aether (must be difficult to find)

Nice idea, but we have to take into consideration the chunk load.
Maybe the Overworld coud be divided into 2 seperate chunk loading sections: Normal overworld and below the bedrock. when one mines below bedrock, that particular chunk would be loaded and the farthest chunk away would be stored in the cache until it is reloaded.
As for the reward: You should be able to get "craftable Obsidian" where you can make tools and armor with it that would have the same toughness as diamond but mine as fast as gold.
However, the "bottom" of the map should be made of blocks that would instantly kill people and their items, but be solid.
Superheated iron core? Or maybe superheated bedrock?
Let's leave it to Notch and the rest of Mojang to decide if they want to add this feature.
