I do not know what you would call this. Some may think of it as a wishlist. But I am not thinking that way, as these ideas go almost directly hand-in-hand. So yeah.
So, we have the wooden pistons coming soon.
They're cool, I love them, and I think they will be great! However, I have some ideas for them already, along with a new idea that would use pistons.
Wooden pistons open when redstone current leading to it is on, and close when the redstone current is off. However, another motion would be cool: Oscillation.
Stone pistons could be added. Stone, not cobblestone, would replace the wooden planks. When redstone current directed to them is turned on, they will open and close by themselves. When redstone current is off, they will be closed until turned on again. I'm sure there is a way to work around this with normal wooden pistons, but this would scrunch down all that work into a single block.
Gold pistons is another piston I thought of. When being moved by some sort of motion, it will generate redstone current. Like stone pistons, wooden planks will be replaced, but with gold ingots instead. Redstone current will not open and close them, only directly added motion will.
My other idea what will go along with these ideas is rotators. Rotators would look like a piston, but would have both sides look like boards. Rotators could be moved by a piston that is two blocks away from them. If a piston and a rotator have one block between them, they connect with a stick. When the piston moves forward or backward, the rotator moves by 90ยบ. When the rotator is placed on flat ground of a ceiling, it would have the rotating bit perpendicular to the floor. When placed on a vertical surface, it will be placed up and down.
Blocks can be attached to a rotator on either side, and blocks directly attached to that block will rotate with it. This means that if a block is attached to a wall and is also touching the rotating block, the block will not rotate since it was directly attached to the wall first.
A rotator is also able to be moved by the natural world. Flowing water or lava can turn it.
Wooden pistons attached to a rotator would have many uses, such as rotating a redstone torch to make it go along different wires. It could also be used in aimable dispensers, that would not require destroying and replacing a dispenser, and would also require fewer dispensers.
Stone pistons could be used to make constantly spinning rotators. These could be used in activatable death traps for mobs once spikes come out (I've read the wiki, and apparently spikes will be official). It could be a rotating propeller with spikes on the ends, and when those hit mobs, they are injured or die. You can also deactivate it with a lever to prevent you from getting hurt.
Gold pistons could be used with rotators to make water wheels, which would generate redstone current from the flow of the water.
Crafting recipes for the new pistons are pretty obvious, but crafting recipes for the rotators is still being thought out. Any help from you guys would be much appreciated.

They only need pistons to work if they don't have blocks in contact with flowing liquids.
