Pitch:
In the current version, long grass drops seeds every now and then. To expand upon the use of this, my idea is to have it similar to the gravel/flint coding, where there's a small percentage for the the long grass to drop seeds, but most of the time it will drop long grass when destroyed.
Long grass behavior:
This long grass acts a flower: it can be placed again, and even reharvested until it drops seeds.
Crafting: = grass
This will create a strawblock.
Purpose:
The straw block is used for cheap building of roofs, floors and walls, and is purely cosmetic. However it adds another purpose to the long grass.
I think you should make it out of wheat instead, and I think animals should try to eat straw that is on the ground (perhaps fattening pigs, making chicken lay eggs, and making sheep regrow wool)

Creeper Jockeys, Because Screw Your Sense of Safety
As for making it out of wheat. I think that wheat already have plenty purposes, and the sane minecrafter would not give up bread or cake, which you can craft from wheat, to make a block which is only cosmetic. Besides real world straw roofing is made from grass, not actual wheat or any other crop.
I thought about the ideas of making the strawblock attact animals, and it makes allot of sense.
However getting animals to spawn in the current version of minecraft takes no effort. All you need is grass and torches/lightsources.
It would be cool, but I personally think doing soo strawblocks attracts animals would be too complicated, espially if animals starts spawning on top of roofs made of the block. :blink.gif:
Actually straw IS a by-product of farming wheat, barley etc. (it's the stalks). Straw is what's used as thatch roofing, animal bedding etc. You're thinking of hay that's made from grass, which is used as animal feed.
Sorry, but I come from a rural corner of the country where learning this difference is considered more important than things like addition or the alphabet.
Really? My apoligies then. I thought wheat was only used for food IRL.
WTF, I already posted this, it was 2x2 wheat, had physics negaded fall damage (AC shizz!) was flammable and if crafted bread on top it would be a bait block that attracts animals. The point was a better way to store wheat or make a Tiki bar lol. PS, search before you suggest! I mean come on in the name of Notch people!
