So I've been playing Minecraft, eating my pork and killing my cows, and I feel like a new kind of meat. So here's Meatcraft: new meat!
Cows drop Beef and sheep drop Mutton in addition to their other drops, which outlive their usefulness. They both act like porkchops, as charcoal is like coal: they look and act the same, just change the IDs.
Pigs would no longer be unique as a meat source; so they should drop Porkbelly in addition to Porkchops. Porkbelly would be inedible raw, but when cooked yields 8 pieces of Bacon. Bacon would stack to 8 and heal one half heart, just like cookies.
Meat would no longer be as compact a healing food, so one could create two triangle sandwiches from bread above meat above bread, healing five hearts each. This rewards players who both invest time wheat farming and risk exploring for meat with a more compact food. The healing would be equivalent with mushroom stew, so balance is maintained.(idea originally on Foodcraft)
That would be redundant. There is no reason to have all of the animals drop meat, because then meat would be pointlessly easy to get. Minecraft is simple, and it's system works great. Why change that?
Interesting idea, and definitely original. I always thought it was odd how cows never dropped meat either. This would be neat to see in the game. Pretty good job! :smile.gif:
Actually I've noticed for me that meat isn't that terribly hard to get anyway; it's how much food you can carry with you that's the bottleneck.
Exactly. Therefore, "simple" foods such as meat alone or just plain bread should heal less, and prepared foods that combine ingredients could become better at healing.
I'd also like to see eggs become edible, as well as the ability to drink milk and make dairy products such as cheese and butter. This way, a sandwich consiting of bread, meat, cheese, and bacon would heal the player more than a plain old cooked porkchop would.
If the bread-meat-bread recipe made TWO sandwiches that each healed 5 hearts, the number of hearts healed would be conserved (3+4+3=5+5), the healing of the sandwich would be as powerful as the also-farmable mushroom stew, and the icon could be one of those cute triangle sandwiches like at a deli or that we had as a kid.
I'll put it on the original post.

With the possibility of mobs never despawning so you actually need to breed and tame animals, and them taking time to mature, it seems like a very good idea.

This. This is the same reason I don't support chicken meat being added. We already have a useful, food related drop from chickens in the form of an egg. Same with cows and milk. They have a primary drop useful for weapons and armor, and a passive drop used for food already.

I agree. I removed chicken meat from my original post, but left beef and mutton since leather isn't very useful once you have iron/diamond armor and wool has few uses unless you do pixel art. Plus, chickens aren't very big, they don't have that much meat on them.

Yay! Beef and Chicken will be added in 1.8. I'm sorry to see that Bacon, Mutton, and Sandwiches did not make the cut, but I'm glad that somebody wants steak too.
