There should be a moon realm added to Minecraft. You'd have to collect a lot of materials to build a rocket and travel there. Also there would have to be new elements added like oil for fuel... and you could power the rocket by gathering electricity from lightning or a hydroelectric dam. The minerals on the moon would have to be really special though and carry a huge roll on the Minecraft earth. I personally think this would make Minecraft a lot more interesting and I think others would feel that way too.
Of course this wont be a portal to the nether. But it will have the same loading screen. It will say: Flying towards the moon. And for leaving the moon: Flying towards Earth. Your rocket will be removed from the world, and onto the moon. or earth. Which means in smp people can steal your rockets. Also, you would need to craft a space helmet to be able to breathe and also an air tank.
Ive seen this suggestion as a YouTube comment. I think its AWESOME!But I think it should be a little different
You should be able to craft a rocket head like this:
I =Iron ingot
IB= Iron block
0= Nothing
0 I 0
I I I
IB IB IB
Then, Notch should make iron attract lightning
Then, the cockpit
G=Glass
IB= Iron Block
0= Nothing
IB IB IB
IB 0 G
IB IB G
Then, thrusters
IB= Iron Block
FL= Flint and Steel
IB IB IB
IB FL IB
IB 0 IB
This will give you 3 thrusters
Then, put it all together
RH= Rocket head
CP= Cockpit
TH= Thruster
0= Nothing
Traveling to the moon gets suggested about 5 times a day. And I have yet to see a suggestion for space travel that I've liked. They're always very vague along the lines of "Travel to the moon with a rocket, there will be special ores up there but also dangerous aliens! K thx bai!"
First off, Notch has said he doesn't like high tech stuff. That's why pistons will be made out of wood instead of metal. Rockets are definitely high tech, I don't think a wooden rocket will work here.
Second, your description is very vague. What's special about the moon? Why would you want to go there? What should be added to the moon that the nether or earth doesn't deserve to get more?
Plus it makes no sense that we'd develop rocket ships before planes or hot air balloons. If we did go into space it would probably require another magical portal. But first you'd have to explain why we'd want to go there at all.
the moon realm wouldnt fit in any better then the nether does so why does it matter?
The moon, unlike the Nether, actually exists.
This brings with it a laundry list of complications in terms of expectations and assumptions that'd be made. It's also not really associated with the fantasy vibe. That doesn't mean it couldn't be, but it'd be more difficult to convey it in that context than, say, a sky dimension.
The air tank, idk.
It's just not in the theme of minecraft.
and what exactly is the theme of minecraft? the moon realm wouldnt fit in any better then the nether does so why does it matter?

"Pseudo-fantasy" is the setting's theme.

MY OWN MOON SUGGESTION!
You'll all love it.
