We now have repeaters fulfilling the role of diode and circuit extender; why not include dedicated blocks for elementary logic gates as well?
Adding AND, OR, XOR and even NOT blocks would dramatically decrease the amount of space a given redstone circuit needs to occupy, and would allow players to more easily create complex circuits. Or, perhaps one block could be implemented with toggleable function: just like the Repeater can be toggled for different delay times, the Logic block could be toggled for different logic functions.
There's actually a mod for this. Go check out the mod forum, it should be there somewhere.
Well, shucks. I guess it's not surprising that others come up with good ideas before I do, but when I searched the suggestion forums for "logic gates" and came up empty, I got all excited.
I'm afraid I really don't like this. It's pointless because you can already make all of these very easily. Don't be lazy and just build them.
It's not just a matter of laziness. Compact logic gates would save builders a huge amount of space when creating complex circuitry, and would make them easier to conceal when making security systems and traps on smp, or for just hiding your wiring in general.

Even so, redstone shouldn't be easy or small. It is powerful and awesome, but the trade off is that it is visible and bulky. It's good those take a lot of space: It makes them more impressive, and means that it take a level of skill to use.

I agree. Whilst I do support llama's... 'naturalism', I do think this could be extremely useful... for everybody.
I'd love a logic gate for when I plan to build my first marquee display... but I don't want to have to build miles of circuits when I could use logic gates. :wink.gif:

Edit: Of course, after posting this, I find the mod.

Enjoy!
Well I'll be damned. This is exactly what I was envisioning when I posted the suggestion in the first place. Thanks for the link!
You're welcome!
It was buried some 16 pages back or so, so I'm not surprised you didn't see it :B
