Hello fellow minecrafters, today I will be proposing an idea that will add a new experience to the game. Meteorites.
This suggestion has been heavily influenced by the game terraria. It is a great game and I suggest everyone go have a look at it.
Meteroites work just as they work in real life, and if need be, you can get an idea of what they will be like if you go mod-hunting for a few minutes. The only difference is that they will NOT be summoned, and will fall to earth randomly. Every now and then, a meteor shower may happen in game, causing multiple meteors, usually 2-4 to fall in an area. This idea of meteors can help incorporate plenty of other mods, such as the amethyst mod to the game. Meteors are essentially big, but not too big, clusters of rock and ores that fall from the minecraft sky. On impact, depending on the size of the meteor, they will cause an explosion, similar to TnT. There is no way of protecting your house from meteors, as they will continue traveling through rock if the meteor impacts layers of rock that are 1-3 blocks thick. The meteors will usually be about 40% ore, 60% stone.
I think that so far I have elaborated enough to give the average reader enough information to visualize what a meteor will look and act like. If my suggestion gets enough attention, I will create a model of an average meteor in minecraft, if someone doesn't beat me to it.
thats a nice but as far as how they go in real life a single small one can cause a huge explosion that would ruin your map if they worked anything like the real ones
It wouldn't be a great feature. Honestly you could protect your house *Makes smooth stone and builds a 3 layer high roof.* Boom, house protection. Also no one would like it, especially on multi-player. How would you like it if you spent several weeks to maybe months building an epic village with a castle and such, then 4 meteors land on it? Wow there goes your town and castle. All destroyed because it doesn't have a three thick stone roof or something, but even then it would explode and be ruined. Also, the lag. Have you ever created a nice big ol' ball of TNT? Then blown it up? How long did it lag? Exactly. All in all, this wouldn't be a good idea at all.
I understand what you guys are saying. It seems that you are worried about the explosion it creates more than anything. The explosion it creates will be smaller than TnT, and unless you have a crappy computer that can't handle 1 or 2 TnT at a time, you should be fine. Also, for multiplayer, there should be "Meteorites - True/False" thing going on. And you, conkedup, if you knew a single thing about meteors you would know that they don't fall perpendicular to the earths surface. Your move, smart one.
Why add something that needlessly destroys the world and makes it look ugly? We already have creepers, shouldn't that be enough?
I'm all for the suggestion of it doesn't do any damage, though. Even still, the meteorite could land on your statue, giving it an unexpected afro. Sorry, but unless you can find a way for it to avoid your creations all together, I'm afraid it's a no-go.
...I do like the concept of finding ores in them, though...

maybe they can make a SMALL crater around them....
and when you find the meteor, you would need (preferably) an iron pickaxe.
the meteor could be either stone iron or even coal, and in the core it could contain redstone, iron or coal, or even diamonds....
