Minecraft should have a moon realm. You'd have to collect a lot of materials to build a rocket and travel there. Notch would have to put in a new element like oil for fuel and you could power it by gathering electricity from lightning or a hydroelectric dam. The minerals on the moon would have to be really special though and carry a huge roll on the Minecraft earth. If anyone else thinks this is a good idea thumbs up the comment and copy and paste it to many other Minecraft videos, Minecraft pages, and many other things! I got this idea from someone on youtube who basically posted the top portion, so I am only passing on a brilliant idea. Then maybe enough Minecrafters together could persuade Notch to implant such a thing, but this would be quite a difficult task. One if this was a mod it would be to big, and have too many bugs, so from my point of view the only way this could happen is if Notch sees into it. Who knows If enough people persuaded Notch, if this thing became a big idea in the Minecraft community. Notch, out of the kindness of his heart could possibly implant this great idea into Minecraft, even though it seems a tedious task. Though I have a favor to ask you fellow Minecrafters, that if you would be happy to pass on this whole text, and add to it if you like, but please don't let a great idea go to waste! I hope you enjoyed reading this and I hope you see further into this idea, and we might make it come true! :smile.gif: Oh! Please take 5-sec. out of your life to take the poll above. Thanks Guys!
I like the sound of this idea, though it sounds rather advanced for my liking of Minecraft. I think it could be a great opportunity for a modder though?

Well actually now that I think of it yes i do agree with you, but whoever mods it should allow full access to Notch, or is that a bad idea?

STOP SAYING IT'S TO ADVAVCED FOR MINECRAFT. MINECAFT IS NOT IN THE DARK AGES.
This would be a step up from the advancedness of the mod Industrial Craft, minecraft hasn't even found proper non-torch/glowstone/etc. lighting yet. Minecraft isn't that modern building game.
I have thought of The Moon idea before, my idea however wouldn't be a rocket ship (it requires to much crafting as well as objects to superior for this game) I think a portal similar to The Nether. Also how on earth are we going to breathe once we are up in space?

I like the idea of a rocket :biggrin.gif: i wouldnt use a portal... yea i know minecraft is "modern age" and stuff... but there is already a basic system of advancing technologies' in the game (eg. wood < stone < iron etc...) and this is exactly what i love about minecraft! being able to create a rocket would offer a great sense of advancement. this is exactly what i want, an ultimate "advancing through the ages" experience! :biggrin.gif: start a caveman, finish a rocket scientist :tongue.gif:
well obviously the construction and requirements of the rocket will be have to be massive (much like the plane mod). If a unique ore is ever added to the nether, it could be a great fuel source for the rocket.
anyway i am looking forward to seeing some great ideas coming through here, even if they are completely ignored by mojang
Minecraft is a very simple game. You don't have to be an architect to build the greatest buildings. That is this game's merit.
There are many things that would be very convenient and useful in minecraft, but they are not implemented in the game. Such examples are more precise curves on buildings to make things look less chunky. Players who feel a need for these make modifications of the game to meet their needs.
Mojang is probably not putting off implementing such features because they're not skilled enough (obviously untrue,) or because they want to tick us off. They know that even though these features improve the game, people will start quitting the game because of its complexity. Furthermore, older machines would have trouble running the game if it was too complex.
Notch could have decided to use more advanced technology and a better graphics engine for the game. He probably decided against it for the previous reasons.
Do you know the game Garrysmod? You can call it a unofficial predecessor of minecraft. It uses the source engine (game engine used for Half-Life 2 games) and there are endless possibilties of structural manner, as you could manipulate the angle of props any way you like it. It's features are far superior compared to the ones in minecraft, as it has a lot of things that minecraft doesn't.
However, it is not all that popular. I have not seen more than 1000 servers. I doubt that 1 million people have the game even though it has been released long ago, which is a feat that minecraft achieved in weeks. The number of minecraft servers and players are steadily increasing, while garrysmod reached its peak long ago. It is because the game is too complicated.
Sure, it would be cool if we had more cool things like rockets and oil. A hydroelectric dam for producing electricity sounds awesome, no doubt about it. The moon, too doesn't sound too bad either. But it would make the game more complicated than it is right now and can lead to people (who prefer things simple, which is the majority) quitting the game.
I don't think that anything like this would happen for a while.
I agree, a rocket is a bit in the future then minecraft's time. A cannon, on the other hand can be implemented. And no new materials would have to be added.
I saw a few videos of launching minecarts with tnt cannons, so maybe there is a design for a vertical cannon. Say, if the player reaches height of 160 at night, he enters Notch's floating islands realm, except maybe it [new realm] should be changed to contain new elements rather then the earth-bound ones.
If Minecraft did have rockets, they shouldn't come until way later, and it should take a long time to actually gather the resources to advance your technology that much.

Minecraft is not "modern age"! It's fantasy! Notch said so!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Medieval builder and texture artists. Also totally awesome.
I don't really think this is possible, not because it's the wrong era technology level for Minecraft (Minecraft doesn't have an era, per se) but because it requires specialized knowledge and materials not available to the average joe, let alone Steve.

I wanted to pass on the idea of the youtuber, but I too was thinking about that.

How about if it's a mod people would have the decision to keep it simple, or make it complex?

I was also thinking this should be a release after the game is actually out... Maybe as an add-on?
A simple gate made out of obsidian and pistons like this:
:stair::stair::stair::stair:
= piston
And when you sit it on fire it will give out an aura, and when you stand on it for long enough it will launch itself into the sky, you'll see a loading screen and you will be on the moon with the portal thingy.

A giant piston that takes you to the moon!
Wouldn't the speed necessary to leave the atmosphere in one shot like that create a massive crater every time you impact the moon?
