I was talking to a friend about the pistons, and realized that there weren't any ways (That we could think of, at least) to make a castle, building, etc. rise out of the ground, while still making it look nice. (As in, not having the entire thing made out of pistons. They're cool, but they won't be useful for the pretties.)
So I came up with the idea of a "glue" of sorts. In a ways, it's already in effect- it's used in sticky pistons. What the glue would do, is make it so that when it's used on a block, it would place a block on it, as normal- like placing a torch on a block, or placing redstone. However, you could then place a block on to the side of the original block that the glue was placed on, and the two blocks would stick together. When either of these blocks are pushed by a piston, it would move both the first block and the second.
The next problem with making rising fortresses was the redstone. You would need all of the redstone to move along with the the fortress, and without that, the fortress would extend a block or two, then stop. So to solve this, I came up with redstone paint. The paint would move along with the block, and conduct a redstone current through it. I realized that the blocks wouldn't work past pistons, because of the extra distance when they extend. For this, I propose that pistons should be able to conduct currents too*, allowing for blocks to extend properly.
*Rather than having them always conduct the current, maybe give them a one-block inventory for redstone. When there's redstone in it, it can conduct the current.
If I didn't explain something very well, feel free to ask me!
This is a brilliant idea! But instead of the glue applying to only pistons, what about for blocks that can only be placed with a block under it, such as Pumpkins?
Eh. Personally I'd rather have a bunch of pistons. It looks more Steamboy-ish :laugh.gif:
This also goes for the paint. I'd love to waste my redstone building giant upwards blocks to activate my pistons when they reach each level. :laugh.gif:

I didn't intend it to only be used on pistons, but on other blocks too. (So not everything is stuck to the piston. That could get annoying.
Pumpkins would be kind of nice, too. Falling objects, maybe not so much. Realistically, sand or gravel should continue past the glue, and stop it from working. (Because it's coated in sand/dust/etc.)
Maybe that could be solved by glue working only once? So if you remove one block, the glue has to be re-applied.
i like the glue idea, but im not too sure about the paint.
That's why I provided the idea of putting redstone in the pistons instead.
I was also wondering about redstone paint being able to go up the sides of walls. Might be nice!

I like the idea of a bunch of pistons too, but lowering the castle again would be a pain. You could force something up as a ceiling, but getting it down without sticky stuff would be just chaotic, you know?
Same goes for the redstone towers, you would basically be building the structure, but without the detail! (Going by the stuff coming out of the ground, that is.)
