Hey i was thinking that you could have volcanoes in minecraft (e.g. mountains filled with lava) where the minecraft terrain generator could deliberately branch caves off (in the true volcano fashion).
This would make lava easier to find for the newer players and allow everybody to be able to find good caves for mining without having to scour the entire map.
now im not saying this is a bad idea, its just not a original idea. TONS of people have this idea and have posted it on Get Satisfaction, so it is more recognized. Dont make this feel like your idea is bad. Also, if new players wanted to find a cave, they could make a mine there selfs. This is all i have to say
I don't know about it gizmo, seems lava's pretty easy to find(for me). On the other hand I don't use lava very much so I guess my opinion is null and void. Maybe volcanoes would be okay if the exploded and there was more than one size of them?
Yeah, thanks for the feedback guys, I, myself seem to find lava everywhere i go.
Yes, i also agree that minecraft newbies can build their own mining tunnels but personally i find it a load easier to find natural caverns as explore them on peaceful (I'm not a fan of being sneaked up on by zombies). In fact, it was through a massive natural cave i found that lead me to my first real 'jackpot'. While in there I found heaps more ores etc. than i had ever found in mining tunnels. Lucky for me, the cave went all the way to bedrock.
As for the obsidian side of things, how are the newbies going to mine the obsidian they could make with water without a diamond pickaxe. Either that or they would have to be experienced enough in minecraft physics to make a mould etc. and then know how to activate the portal.
The main part of the volcano for me would be the caves branching off, making them a great place to explore and go mining!
Anyway, thanks, i'll probably go find some thing on get satisfaction about it and have my say there!
I beleive the "New Nether" thread has an idea for volcanos that erupt, but in the nether, and only if the lava goes all the way to adminium. It might be beneficial to take a glance at it, so here's the link. I even set it to go right to the volcano part.

nah... i would like it for terraria because it is more for adventure ( at least for me ) while minecraft is about building ( at least for mr ) , i dont want volcanoes destroying my stuff
