Note blocks only play a momentary note. I suggest adding continuous note blocks that hold a note as long as they receive a redstone charge.
What if these note blocks were made of stone instead of wood? You'd simply swap in smoothstone for wood in the noteblock recipe to create a stone noteblock. They'd be stone colored but have the noteblock texture.
Other than holding a note they'd operate exactly like current note blocks. What do you think?
