This is a two part element. One is the introduction of a new ocean based mob, something a little bit larger than most mobs, but smaller than a giant. Simply put: a whale.
What is the importance of the whale? Other than a massive peaceful mob moving along the ocean and occasionally rising, well it can be harvested as many creatures in real life and in minecraft. Using its blubber in order to create a form of insulation. Like a form of armor except it doesnt quite provide armor just warmth. The effect would be primarily to entice players to go into the snow biomes found in Minecraft making them explore more, though why would they want to go into the snow biomes?
Riches. Iron, Coal, Redstone, Diamond, basically anything that can be dug up is found in abundance compared to temperate zones. The snow biomes would however have to slow down the player if they are not kept warm either via a torch, flame, furnace, or in this case the aformentioned blubber. Whales would also be found a bit more in the coasts of snow biomes or under ice and when they rise have an interesting spectacle of them breaking through the ice for a breath of air. The slowing down of the player would affect their movement making them a bit slower as if they were in soul sand, aswell as making them mine slower, unless very deep underground or lit by a torch. Perhaps it could also introduce some sort of a damage similar to staying underwater for too long by damaging the player until they get warm.
How is this useful? Well it helps introduce an interesting new mob: whales, plus it allows that mob to have some sort of use (i.e. squids and ink) enticing the player enough to want to go find a snow biome and start mining in order to find precious metals it would otherwise take longer to find. The new mob aswell could also inspire new form of weapons and uses to hunt it or use it. (Saddle anyone?)

Bloodcraft: Search up on Beta Servers for server IP and info! Or message me Admin!
This would be good for adventure mode. Great idea!

War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other. The good people die, and so do the bad ones, but the weak people, like me, we have inherited the earth.
