Now, ideally you'd want this to be copper, but you work with what you've got, right?
Water wheel looks something like a piston, but it only sits on its side. The wheel, when it touches flowing water, spins and creates power to a circuit.
When the water stops flowing, the wheel stops spinning, and the circuit is cut.
I was thinking it'd have the same setup as a piston in the craft window, only change the redstone to gold (instead of copper)
Now, I know, redstone torches provide all the power you could ever need. And redstone is more common than gold.
But torches are going to become impermanent, right? This may include the redstone variety, no?
Wouldn't a waterwheel be a cooler alternate powersource than a redstone lantern?

this seems like an awesome Idea, waterwheels could add so much variety to the usual redstone wiring people use.

The name's Hyp, and I am trying to become a better artist!.
I like this. This could be the functional opposite of a piston in relation to water, given that pistons effect the flow of water, and this would detect it.
This could have all kinds of applications, including timing functions in circuits (Water starts flowing across a ditch, reaches the other side and triggers water wheel)
No. At least no reliable source has ever even remotely hinted at this.
Waterwheels used in conjunction with pistons (to control flow) could be interesting. I'm not sure HOW useful, but interesting...
Oh no? Hrm. I had thought it was a foregone conclusion. I guess I trust too many rumors. I should be glad I won't have to replace all my torches when they suddenly die tho'.
I really doubt that redstone torches will no longer be pernament, because that would make it impossible to create a lot of different circuits. Instead, maybe have it as an alternative power source, because with the new pistons you can make flood gates, and water wheels would be a good addition to this.

Does kinda reduce the value of my idea then.
I do still think it'd be fun tho'.
He meant the redstone ones, since they don't produce safe light anyway. But there are visual reasons you might want to use water wheels for power.
I think redstone really needs more things it can achieve - then ideas such as this would really come into their own.
Redstone needs more things it can achieve?!?!?! Are you serious?!? People have made computers, TV display, calculators adders memory systems and SO much more... read up on it...

Or, I suppose, lava-wheels?

But another part of me wants to make a gristmill with a water wheel and a grindstone. :smile.gif:
