I play Counter-Strike quite a bit, and while playing MineCraft, I find that I always want to hit Q to go back to my last weapon, then Q to go back (if you don't know what I'm talking about play Counter Strike for a little bit and press Q after switching weapons). It happens a lot when I am mining, I have my pick out, press Q for torch, then Q again to keep mining. But it doesn't work, cause it's MineCraft. I want this so bad, I've written a script in GlovePie that simulates the Q button for me, though it still is rather buggy, it works. Tell me what you guys think. Yes? No? Maybe so?
Sorry if this has been asked before, I did search the forums though and couldn't find much.
(If you still don't know what I'm talking about, I'd gladly clear it up)
While this could be useful, convenient and easily implemented, its rather unnecessary. See, I use the scroll wheel for my tools. And I generally organize my items in the same spot (Pickaxe always first, torches last, dirt/scaffolding second to last etc) so I am familiar with how much I have to scroll to find my desired tool.

If there ever was a remote possibility that I would open Minecraft and see rocket ships and lightsabers, I'd much sooner take up alcoholism.

Search. It was everyone else's idea first, and it sucked every time.
That's actually a good idea! I do need to switch from axe to torch or axe to sword a lot, and using the wheel sometimes I go over the item i want and i acidentally choose something else. Perhaps you could work out all of the bugs and release it as a mod!
Bad idea to put into Minecraft. I say this because you can just use zombes mod and set a key to switch to either your bow or your sword. Putting things like this in minecraft is kind of pointless when there are mods for it.

I guess you disagree with them adding pistons then? Cause, you know, they were originally a mod for Minecraft.
Meh. This really isn't important enough to warrant official implementation. And even so, don't make it Q. Q is the drop item key, so it would have to be something else.
Personally I don't like to use the scroll wheel much, but it's probably because my mouse isn't all that great and isn't consistent. I'll just keep using my script while I play, haha. Though I do hope this gets implemented, it wouldn't be too much extra coding, from what I understand anyway.
I always keep my sword in slot 1 so all I have to do is tap 1 to bring out my sword. A specific key to bring up the last selected item seems pointless when there are 9 easily accessed quick slots.

I don't think everyone quite understands. Say you had a pick in slot 1 and a torch in slot 9. You're mining and you want to place a torch. You press Q to get to the torch (cause you used it last), then you place torch, and you press Q to get back to the torch, it's a quick motion.

Scrolling from slot 1 backwards to slot 9 is just as quick. This really isn't necessary as long as you have a functional mouse wheel, which every decent mouse probably has these days.
You know, it's easy enough to just use the number keys on your keyboard to switch between things... so you don't even have to use the mouse wheel or anything.

well since we are talking about CSS commands to Minecraft then the drop should be G and switch tools is Q LOLOLOL
Since we have the scroll wheel AND hotkeys, this is a bit redundant. Perhaps you could have "Q" be to switch between specified items (line from a stone to an iron pick).
