with a magical red dust that transfers electricity, we should be abled to make motors, and intern, bring gears back.
Crafting recipies:
The Motor:
[ ] [ ] =iron =redstone (note to all:Notch is changing the piston recipie when he adds them)
The motor, in its on state, would appear as a block tall cylinder with a spinning iron bar sticking out of the top, reaching a 2 block height, in its off state, it would simply stop spinning.The motor would not be placed if there is a block blocking the iron stick, and other blocks simply wouldn't be able to be placed on the motor, if sand or gravel FALL on a motor or a spinning gear, they will be destroyed.Direction can be toggled by right clicking.the motor is powered by redstone.when placed, the iron bar will be facing the player.
EDIT:just a thought here, but the motor could have a actual interface, where you could change the speed/direction that it spun.
The iron rod:
[ ] [ ] =iron
[ ] [ ]
The iron rod would simply be placed on the floor or ON A WALL!making gears a valuable way to transfer red stone power vertically, without having holes or blocks sticking out of your wall.making gears and other contraptions costly, but cleaner and look better then magical dust.it would look like a iron stick sticking out of the ground
The Gear:
[ ] [ ] =iron [ ]
[ ] [ ]
The gear, would be placed on a motor or iron bar, if placed on a motor the gear would would spin the same way as a motor, and spin any other gears touching it, and any gears connected to the motor through another gear or directly touching, would turn off if the motor turned off.all gears touching the gear connecting to the motor would spin the same speed, and act as gears....(durrr....hurrr....)The gears apperance would look like a gear, and be the size of a halfstep.If a player, mob, or item falls into spinning gears, the mobs would be damaged, and the items would be destroyed, making a sort of grinder.(note, this would be on the same place as a iron bar if placed on a iron bar)
The sticky gear:
[ ] [ ] =iron =slimeball
[ ] [ ]
this would act exactly the same as the gear with one difference, a block without physics would stick to this gear, and spin with it. if the block connected to the sticky gears blocked by other blocks, the block that is trying to spin will simply be destroyed, along with the sticky gear, witch would become a normal gear upon mining, explosion, or destruction.
Spinning platforms:
(a new use for slimeballs)
so, you right click any side of a block without physics with a slimeball, and the block will get covered in slime.Any blocks placed on the slime will "stick" to one another, and act as one.only blocks within a 5 block radius of a motor (or toughing a motor) would be affected, all others, the slime would break and it would act as a normal block.
slime could also be found on cave floors, where slimes would spawn, making it a bit easyer to collect.
spinning platforms would also spin the player.
The Energy Outtake:
[ ] [ ] =gear =iron =redstone
what this would do, is if spun by another gear, it would simply convert it back to redstone energy.This would look similar to the motor, but with a gear atop instead of a iron bar and take up 2 blocks. if not spun by another gear, it simply dosnt generate power.IF power goes to the Energy outtake (cant think of another name) it would do nothing but make the burning out sound that a redstone torch does if extinguished.
well, there's my idea, thank you for ready and please leave your sugestions down below.
please dont troll, nobody likes trolls
EDIT:
thanks to XyPhoGr for this idea, if a sand or gravel block was placed inbetween 2 spinning gears,
~ ->
= gear =sand
it would push it the same way the gears are turning, if they where sticky gears, it could push non physics blocks and physics blocks, just like so.
Theoretically it would be possible; I'm betting on it.
Definitely a good idea; however, I think there should be some actual use for having a spinning block, such as being powered by a waterwheel, could push blocks under it to away (like this):
O = spinning gear (counter clockwise)
X = block
O_______O
X___->___X
X_______X
If the block was sand, it could be used to fill an area more repidly using an area of pistons/gears (place sand, piston pushes it under gears, piston pushes forward under gears moving other way that move it over a hole)

it would be like a boat and would jsut spin in a circle.
if redstone can make the **** that it does, this is possible. xD

one step at a time xD
will do, 1 sec
