Basically, colored LED blocks... dye them just like wool, and use redstone to light them up.
What do you all think?
they would be completely pointless unless the light they emitted was the same color as the block otherwise we have glowstone
EDIT: pretty sure it aint possible
ummm, notch already has implemented colour lighting, and i have a feeling that laterns are going to be introduced in the next update, laterns of different colours.
they wouldn't be crafted out of wool... the light they emit would be the same color as the block (hence the dying, or maybe you can cycle through the color-wheel by right-clicking the object like changing the sound of a noteblock)...
pretty sure it's easily possible.
just make the lights like any neon light...
think like this:
the block is solid & smooth, it's colored like the tip of a lightsaber when powered...
it's an LED.
You could make crazy light displays with repeaters and things.
I think it'd be cool to have coloured light blocks. As for it not being possible, of course it's possible if it's programmed in. It's not in the game yet, but that's why it's being suggested.

They'd be like solid neon lights that when lit emit "colored light" of whichever color (think like a lightsaber)...
a possible recipe could be:
the gold ore is actually a glowstone block, the red flowers represent the dye'ing material you choose, and the red wool is actually redstone.
You cant make LED's out of wool nor light them up with anything but torches. maybe in the future you can use pistons for something like that.
