I have seen a lot of videos of people trying to make cities in Minecraft. But because of Minecraft's height limit these cities can't have things like true skyscrapers or towers. Also, another thing Minecraft lacks is real mountains. So here's what I propose: Give people starting a new world the ability to choose what size they want their world to be in terms of sky limit and bedrock limit. Of course this option would probably only be for people with better computers.
The option could be like this:
Sky limit = Normal(Current world height.) - 2x(Twice the height.)Small Mts. - 3x(Three times the height.)Large Mts.
Bedrock limit = Normal(Current bedrock depth.) - 2x(Twice the depth.) - 3x(Three times the depth.)
These options could be separate from each other so that you could have a higher sky, but a normal bedrock depth.
Another way to do this would be with an adjustable slider for number of blocks high or deep.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a side note for mountains: There could be a certain height where dirt, sand, and gravel no longer appear, and only stone is found. This would be accompanied by snow and ice(glaciers with/without water run-off).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nevermind about my post. randalpik posted a much better, and more detailed way to do this idea. Here is the link. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/169569-increased-map-height/
^ According to the wiki, Notch supposedly said this during a live webcast. (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Sky_Dimension) That's actually an unsourced quote though, since even though it gives the name of the site where this took place, there is no link to any sort of record of it.

-There are already MASSIVE mountains that the map generator makes.
-Maps like Broville have massive skyscrapers; they even managed a miniature forest in one of them.
Research? You can see first-hand how big mountains get just be playing the game. I think your definition of "massive" is just much more generous that that of the OP.
It's been established that Notch has confirmed the sky realm, just not that it will be a "dream world." Neither Twitter post says anything about that.
And stop double-posting. You did that in that lightbulb thread too just to say the exact same thing someone before you said and completely ignored the response I had already given him.
